Howard Dean’s Democracy For America: Culture Of Activism vs. Culture of Incumbency
“Democracy is not a spectator sport and politics is too important to be left up to the professionals.” - Jim Dean, chair of Democracy for America (DFA), brother, former Vermont Governor Howard Dean

~snip~

This March marks the fifth anniversary. It is a force of 1,200,000 and growing. As fate would have it, DFA held a “Grassroots Campaign Academy” seminar in Atlanta last weekend at the Georgia Perimeter College. I met with Jim Dean to take the temperature of democratic activism. With renewed enthusiasm, I can report that it is alive and well. DFA covered topics such as Field Planning, Communications & Message Strategy, Fundraising and Finance, Online Organizing, Issue Advocacy, Campus Organizing and much more.

DFA is not only active in presidential, congressional, and senatorial races, they are focusing on municipalities and state races to focus on a new group of leaders, stating again and again, “perseverance wins.” The theme of a new culture of activism to Congress vs. a culture of incumbency. One of their current actions of activism is to send a message to DC by finding a challenger to vote corporate democrats out of office like Senator Blanche Lambert Lincoln.

Sad to say that this administration and this congress have completely trashed it. :(
