Another day, another shooting in public
Is it just me or have shootings in schools, workplaces and the public square become so commonplace that they have lost their ability to shock our consciousness? We now live in a world that any day, any moment someone could walk into your workplace or school and just start shooting -- or fly a plane into your building.

Is this the new normal? What is driving this? Is there any way of fixing it?

than they were five years ago.

4. What about all of the incidents..
in Texas planes flying into buildings and yesterday the bank building shootings. I haven't heard anymore on that. I thought there were some more incidents that have happened in Texas for the past few weeks.

6. Actually, US dominance in econ and foreign policy over the last 80 years
has kept the problems of the "unwashed" masses off of your doorstep.

As things are flattening out and equalizing......Knock ,Knock folks. What you and American society fought so desperately to keep out of the American paradigm is coming home to roost.

7. I read in the gungeon that the problem seems to be...
that not enough people have guns-- apparently, if everyone carried, the bad guys would never get a shot off.

So, to stop these shootings the government should immediately begin a program of arming its citizens-- tax credits for gun purchases, and those who cannot afford a gun will be able to get a subsidy.

(What good is having an Amendment like the Second if you're not going to support it?)

8. No - I think the argument is that as gun ownership has sky rocketed
in the past 20 years, violent crime has decreased to historic levels. In other words, perception is not reality when it comes to guns and violence.

11. And do you really think there's a link between rising gun ownership..
and decreasing crime? Coincidence is not causality until a link is found.

And if violent crime is so reduced, for whatever reason, why the newfound urgency for wider gun ownership and availibility?

(I really should use that sarcasm thingy more often-- sometimes I forget who reads this stuff.)

12. Absolutely not - I also believe the converse is also not true

more guns do not equal more violence.

As for gun ownership expanding, perhaps it is less driven by fear then you think it is. The irony here is that the AWB gave the NRA and other gun rights groups a gift beyond imagination. Do you think it a coincidence that the surge in gun ownership (as well as NRA membership) coincides with the passing of the AWB? The AWB was a mistake that most likely killed forever the possibility of significant gun regulation in America. In soccer that is know as an "own goal".

13. What is propaganda?
These events actually are occurring. In fact, someone in my area just shut up an office for a bad performance review.

14. Calling something propaganda does not imply that it isn't true
My stepfather learned that in World War II while monitoring Japanese transmissions in English that were aimed at US military people.
