How to make $$$: Drive a Toyota, step on the gas, call 911, sue Toyota
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 01:37 PM by ztlore
Your 911 call will be recorded.

Toyota doesn't have anything to prove that you didn't step on the gas either by mistake or on purpose.

It's your word (innocent American) vs. Toyota (lying Japanese).

Big Bad Toyota will settle out of court.

How many attorneys are thinking the same thing?

31. I don't know
I was reading that a third of the bank robberies in tulsa last year were never caught, thats pretty good odds for someone who is down and out anyway.

27. ALL? no. Some - you bet
Its pretty clear that this last event was a fabrication.

Clearly Toyota has a problem and that is why they are recalling.

But its also equally clear that at least one person has decided to try and cash a paycheck based on Toyota's problem by perpetuating a fraudulent event.

Toyota will pay deal for their real issues. But when people manufacture their own fraudulent attempts, it only reduces the credibility and makes it more difficult for real victims to collect.

I didn't see that implied, merely inferred. Seems to me the target (if any) is the get-rich-quick litigation scammers.

7. There's already been at least one case of a man who is in prison
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 01:51 PM by pnwmom
because someone died when his Toyota suddenly accelerated. The jury decided it had to have been his fault, even though there was no alcohol or drug in his system. (This was before the recalls; now the victim's family wants the "killer" to be released from prison.) I'm more worried about cases like that -- and the possible deaths -- than I am about Toyota's ability to defend itself.

The number of people who would risk killing themselves or others, in order to get a chance to sue Toyota, is probably low. There are easier ways to make money.

Are you feeling dizzy today? Sounds like your moral compass may be on the fritz.

9. Well you kind of set yourself up for this sort of thing when you
don't do a good job of investigating nor fixing your product and let it go on for years and years with millions of cars affected.

Bachi.

19. I could do that.
My wife has the Rav-4 with the 3.5L V-6, so it would be a bit scary.

Maybe I would get enough $$$ to buy American & get a Cadillac CTS.

36. Well, Toyota has non-union assembly plants in some very red states.
If they lose this battle they lose jobs, money and the politicians lose huge contributions from Toyota. I could definitely make a good guess where this is coming from. The same place the Tea Party came from. Lobbyists.

25. This is the stupidist thing I have read today

50 people have died, multiple others have said it happens.

One person who died was pulled out of a lake the car had accelerated into. Still had both feet on the brake.

Right wing bullshit this thread is.

Most Americans have a good moral compass & would never do this.

Then there's Halliburton enjoying their corporate fraud /war profiteering.

WhatchaGonnaDo?
