I keep reading about this so-called "Blood Bath" of 2010 and here's my 2 cents... |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 03:48 PM by LynneSin
where are the candidates running against these so-called 'bad democrats'?
I mean we have a few with opposition, like Halter running against Blance Lincoln in Arkansas. But here's my 2 cents - I will not do anything to enable a republican to win an election. And that means when the primaries are overwith I'm here to support democrats.
So if we are getting opponents against these bad democrats then who are we to blame? (and that's a rhetoric question btw)
And edit note: I am talking about running democratic challengers in the primaries, something which is allowed in DU discussion!

Either those who are calling for this are not out there working on getting their candidates in the race or that's not their goal in the first place. I can't decide which thing I think is the truth.
But, there it is. I'm just working on DFL issues here in MN and being as active as I can be.
The alternative is to let the GOOPers win, and I'm having none of that.

2. People who post on DU will not determine the election... |
|
It's those "independent" voters who are influenced by the gestalt of the moment.

3. I will not do anything to help a Republican win either |
|
and that includes the ones who put a "D" after their name.
The problem will not be with people voting for Republicans, it will be with them being so disgusted they just don't bother to show up to vote and for the first time in my life I'm beginning to understand that attitude.

4. I will be very selective about who I support |
|
having a D just isn't enough for me. It was for the last 40 years, but that's not good enough anymore.

5. You do know that promoting NOT voting for the democrats after the primaries |
|
is not allowed here at DU - it is part of the rules for posting at DU.
What you do is your own choice, what you promote at DU is a different matter.

6. Making an issue of that limits discussion on your OP |

Did you want a discussion or an affirmation?

10. well I am supporting individual Dems |
|
who I agree should be in office. I don't want any of my "support " going to Lincoln,Nelson, Stupak, et al. I will never vote for an R. I am lucky I have a Good Dem running against an incumbent R here. As such, we get ignored by DNC and must help ourselves.

7. I see no evidence that this is foregone |

From here, it seems that, crappy though it may be, some version of health care will be passed, and SOME movement on the unemployment disaster will happen. If so, there's plenty of ammunition to use against the Republicans. Just because "everybody" says it's going to be a 1994 replay doesn't make it so, and even if Obama takes more and more hits against his character and general appeal, that doesn't make the reactionaries any more likable.
On the other hand the VAST heaps of money now available to every primitive who cares to run (thanks to the Supreme Court) can skew things terribly.
Frankly, the best thing that could happen for the right is an economic downturn, and that is what I dread, not only for the election but for the future. The economy is NOT recovering, and the basic model for it is non-existent. We're a consumer-based economy with consumers reeling with the blows.
Anyone who says this is going to be a reactionary walkover is full of crap. It may well be, but it's not guaranteed.

9. I don't see 1994 happening again and I do expect losses |
|
but anyone suggesting a blood bath because the democrats aren't good enough should be doing SOMETHING to get good dems elected in the primaries.
