Rodny Alcala (serial killer) recommended for Death Penalty by jury in Los Angeles
Edited on Tue Mar-09-10 07:57 PM by itsrobert
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/03/orange-county-jury-recommends-death-for-alcala-for-third-time.html

JURY RECS DEATH PENALTY.

REPORTED ON KABC 7 NEWS.

For those that are not aware. He killed 1 girl and 4 women. And most likely killed more.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2010/02/rodney-alcala-guilty-in-slayings-of-girl-and-4-women.html

In the future, if you don't know about the subject, you are free to ask for more information, you don't need to get all sarcastic and all high and mighty about it. I assumed people knew who this monster is. A monster who tortured his victims before he killed them.

15. Serial rapist/murderer
who raped and murdered 4 women and one 12 year old girl between 1977-1979.

I don't want him to get the DP, it's too quick. I want him to sit in the can for the rest of his useless, rotten life.

The other prisoners will not be nice to a child rapist.

Serial killer Alcala pleads for life at OC trial
By The Associated Press

Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 12:30 p.m.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Convicted serial killer Rodney Alcala has asked an Orange County jury to spare his life.

Alcala gave his own closing arguments Tuesday in the penalty phase of his trial for raping and murdering a 12-year-old Huntington Beach girl and four women in the 1970s.

Alcala, who's 66, told jurors that if they recommend death instead of life in prison without parole, his case would be on appeal for another 15 to 20 years.

He also played jurors a song from the Arlo Guthrie album "Alice's Restaurant."

Earlier, a prosecutor called Alcala an "evil monster" who knows he's done wrong and doesn't care.

A defense psychiatrist testified last week that Alcala, who claims he can't remember some of his actions, has a borderline personality disorder.

I admit that is merely my opinion but it is one I feel strongly about. Retribution is the root of many an evil in this world. See Israel/Palestine, Turkey/Kurds, everyone in the former Yugoslavia, and numerous places in Africa from Eritrea to the Congo to Rwanda and many more. The concept of retribution does nothing but demand more blood. Enough.

my ONLY exception, and not for the deterrent issue, since it does not work... is for those responsible for genocide... as in giving the direct orders. And even then I take pause at taking ANY human live, no matter how horrific the crime.

In case some folks need a translation.

Hitler,

Stalin

Pol Pot

Milosowitch....

Yes that includes a few in our own government as well.

And in most cases they never EVAH face the music anyway. But we celebrate it when a small time criminal gets it.

50. See, this is why I'd like to outlaw capital punishment. Because I'd want to execute this guy.
Just like I wanted to execute Timothy McVeigh. One of my friends was blown through a wall in OKC.

But I'm against the death penalty. And I'm smart enough to know that emotions get the best of us at times. Even anti-death penalty folks like me.

That being said, it's not like this guy didn't know that he might get death if he were ever caught. He did know. And he kept on raping and murdering. A child for God's sake. A little girl. Will I have any sympathy for him if he's finally executed? No. He knew what he was doing. But I still want to outlaw the death penalty.

I think many of us go through the thought process I just typed out. We're human and we have complex thoughts and complex emotions. And we know the death penalty is wrong, no matter how much we'd like to hurt those murdering bastards.

I am conflicted at times with the death penalty. I am 99% against it, but I guess really it is more that I am against it, I just won't weep when those people are gone. I won't rejoice in their death, but I won't mourn them either. This guy sounds like a real monster. But the death penalty is wrong, morally.

Or for any of these serial killers who keep on doing it even when the death penalty is a possibility.

But it's morally wrong. Yes. And I sure as hell don't trust the justice system enough to believe an innocent person has never been or will never be executed. I say that as a former member of law enforcement.

Most cops are good. A few are bad. Even the good ones make honest mistakes. And that shouldn't be the difference between life and death for an innocent person.
