Bachmann Calls for a Repeal of the Separation of Church and State
Bachmann: Tea partiers need to ‘literally start banging garbage lids’ to defeat health care reform

During Monday’s Hot Tea Radio Show U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann told listeners that she’s “fighting for my political life,” called for a repeal of the separation of church and state, and said that tea partiers need to “literally start banging garbage lids together” to defeat health care reform.

~snip~

Bachmann was asked what religious leaders can do to help get conservatives elected. She responded that Congress should repeal the ban that prevents 501(c)3 nonprofits and churches from endorsing candidates. (In Bachmann’s first run for Congress, Living Word Christian Center Pastor Mac Hammond got into hot water for endorsing Bachmann from the pulpit.)

The reason why clergy are afraid to be involved is because of an amendment that former President Lyndon Johnson passed when he was a senator from Texas… that stops 501(3)c organizations from saying anything political from the pulpit. Now, churches can be political from the pulpit. They can talk about issues all they want. What they can’t do is endorse a candidate from the pulpit. But the ACLU has been all over the backs of churches… Christian and Jews and people of faith are not second class citizens… but these radical leftist organizations have been intimidating Christians for so long and pastors don’t generally now that they do have the right to speak out from the pulpit. Congress should repeal that amendment from Lyndon Johnson… We need to repeal that and give Christians back their first amendment rights to free speech in the church.

21. Not as long as that preacher urges people to vote for her from
his pulpit. I can not understand why the IRS does not revoke their tax exemption. He is a crook and big one. And besides she represents the crookedest, corrupt area in Minnesota....Minneapolis. Where the republicans thrive. They even set the people up there to take most of the lottery prizes. I have heard so so so many complaints from people about if you live in the Minneapolis area bet on hitting the lottery. Any place in the state forget it.

23. Um, Michelle Bachmann does NOT represent Minneapolis.
She represents the 6th District, which includes the eastern suburbs of St. Paul and gerrymanders up towards Stearns County. Minneapolis, where I live, is represented by the excellent and very progressive Democrat, Keith Ellison. Minneapolis, which, btw, has a notably clean government, is a very "blue" city. The mayor is a Democrat, and the city went something like 70% for Obama.

You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

the 6th stretches from St Cloud to Stillwater, roughly along highway 10, I don't think that it actually touches the city of Minneapolis http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=MN&district=6 . While I don't disagree that the 6th is the most corrupt district in the state, the city of Minneapolis is nowhere near it.

34. But really, that's ALL we're talking about here.
She (and so many others) imply that these evangelicals are somehow prevented, by law, from saying whatever they want to their congregations.

Nothing could be further from the truth. If they are willing to give up their tax shelter and pay up like any other political organization does, they can be as political as they damn well please.

43. Theocracy
Now, this could truly be interesting...Palin and Bachmann both want America to be a Christian theocracy. Well...if we did that, and took it to its logical endstate:

women couldn't hold political office or work as political commentators, paid or unpaid
if a man walked into a company, pointed at a woman working there and said "I want her job," the woman would have to immediately be fired. Women could work in jobs deemed "suitable" for them without risking termination--jobs such as nursing, teaching and hairdressing fall into this category
women couldn't drive cars, and they definitely couldn't drive commercial trucks
women couldn't ride motorcycles, bicycles or horses as the sight of a woman with spread legs might sexually excite a man
women would have to produce a child every two years if physically capable of doing so
women would be required to marry, and not allowed to divorce
men would control women's finances
women would be required to dress in shapeless garments in colors of medium to dark brown or medium to dark gray
women would not be allowed to cut their hair, use chemical treatments on it, or wear cosmetics of any kind unless they are actresses--but actresses may only wear fleshtoned products
women would be allowed to wear a wedding ring, plus earrings as they're mentioned in the Bible, but no other jewelry would be allowed

The reaction from women would be swift: "You want me to wear WHAT?" "I ain't having any babies." "You want my husband to take care of all the bills? That SOB would spend the mortgage payment on cigars and beer!" "Turn in my Harley? Yeah, right!" "What the hell do you mean, no makeup?" "I can lose my job just because a man wants it? You and whose army?"

Palin and Bachmann would be Serena Joys: working their asses off to ensure America became a theocracy, then becoming very unhappy if it actually happened.

40. Yes. Here's why:
Minnesota Congressional District 6 is a heavily gerrymandered district, as you might guess from its convoluted outline on the map below. If a district is gerrymandered to favor Republicans, that doesn't mean it has a huge preponderance of Republicans. It means there's a slim majority of Republicans.

A gerrymandered district is a vulnerable district. Times change, demographics change, and if the all-important independents in the district decide they're fed up with the Bachmann freak show, then the election tilts to the Democrat.

We have two good candidates vying for the honor of squaring off against Bachmann: Dr. Maureen Reed and State Senator Tarryl Clark. I'd be proud to send either of them to Congress, but at this point, I favor Tarryl Clark. As a state senator from the St. Cloud area, she has demonstrated her electability in Bachmann's district - and in the more-conservative western end of the district, at that. (Here in the eastern end, there are more Democrats).

We'll decide between Dr. Reed and Senator Clark at the CD6 convention on March 27th. Then it's time to get busy and donate to our candidate.

and have proudly worked and voted for her. She is a smart woman, and the hardest working campaigner I have ever seen. She took a republican's seat. And now she is Assistant Majority Leader of the Minnesota Senate.

She had to give up that seat to run. She would not have run if she hadn't done the political calculation and figured out a way to win.

That tiny bit of gray matter rattling around inside that thick skull of hers, and apparently permits her to function and speak, is what is fighting a losing battle for its life.

Bachmann should take her garbage <can> lids and bang them together with her head in-between them.

How anyone could vote this frrreeeking imbecile into any position in local, much less federal government, is perplexing, if not mortifying. What an unfair crying shame that so many far more humane and intelligent citizens in this country are suffering great hardships, while this shrill whackjob maniac lives a relatively comfortable lifestyle and holds a public office.
