1. If the owners of these trademarks pressed their cases with every youth team
Most uniforms would have to be thrown out. It's too much work for no gain.

2. Many actually pay a fee to license the logos, though.
This was an exact copy.

3. The principal admitted he basically stole the logo
I don't think it sends a great message to tell students it's okay to take someone else's trademark.

7. Then I wonder who the guy I heard on the radio was?
Maybe he was an old principal (guy I heard on NPR a few weeks ago, who admitted they took the actual Dodge logo).

8. Are you referring to this?
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=123781334

from the OP above?

That's the new principal and it's obvious the logo in use today (and that has been in use) is an exact copy. For him to say otherwise would be ridiculous. The old principal, Boyd Karns, had been at LMHS for a long time (not sure how far back he went...we just moved here last summer)

4. UPDATE: You're not gonna like this....
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_education_edblog/2010/03/chrysler-softens-stand-on-lake-mary-highs-ram-jam.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+SentinelSchoolZone+%28Sentinel+School+Zone%29

In exchange for allowing limited use of the logo on certain school items, Chrysler will be declared the school’s business partner. Under the agreement the school will “promote Chrysler as its partner” and is required to post signs in the gym and on or near the park benches stating “Lake Mary: Proud Partner of Chrysler.”

Chrysler came in for a lot of local criticism for coming down hard on Lake Mary High for illegally using its trademark ram’s head logo. We wrote about it and you responded, almost uniformly with the stand that yes, the school did something wrong, but no, Chrysler shouldn’t whack the school with a giant club. Legal action had been threatened if the school did not stop using the logo and remove it from everything from athletic team uniforms to the gym floor, which would have been a co$tly proposition.

But under a new agreement reached Monday between attorneys for Chrysler and the School Board, the logo can remain on the gym floor, outside park benches and wrestling mats until those items are worn out in the course of normal use and need replaced.

ugh.

6. it`s a win for both sides...
dodge keeps trademark rights by the school posting signs and school keeps a cool logo and does`t have to spend money for a new one.
