41. MM was ridiculously dickish in the interview |
|
And I learned a lot about MM in that interview and yes I lost respect for him. What I want to know if Obama is SO in favor of the public option, which he is not (actions speak louder than words) why is Obama not negotiating with the Congress people who voted against the bill in the first place like Dennis. Seems he is negotiating with Stupak.
Reason why - Obam is no progressive never has been never will be and if he doesn't step the hell up and get something done he will be a one term President. which would be kind of sad.
And if this shows up as my first post it is far from it. I forgot my password and had to re register. Although I have not been posting here in a while - kind of gave it up during the ridiculous primary wars. But I was pissed enough at MM for dissing Dennis I decided to sign on tonight.
So Marcos STFU about Dennis.

Extremism is pushing a massively unpopular individual mandate while dumping a massively popular public option.
Extremism is codifying the profits of a duplicitous industry, at the expense of the young and the middle class.
Extremism is consistently misrepresenting the reform by over-promising then under-delivering on regulatory measures and cost reduction schemes.
Extremism is rushing an unpopular, unproductive bill through congress in a misguided effort to rack up a "win", regardless of how may people will be hurt over the long term.
Please, stop insulting our intelligence. The grossly misnamed party "centrists" are the real extremists on health reform.

40. Yep, time and time again. |
|
For example, imagine the nerve of that cheeky little fellow, voting against IWR. Now that's extremism for you. Or voting against NAFTA. Still more extremism. Voting against the PATRIOT Act. How extremist can you get. And now he's so deluded that he's championing a people -- not profit -- centered health care system. More extremist crap.
He's pretty clearly extremist, since he's on the losing side of just about everything! Fortunately for us, and this great country of ours -- God Bless Her! -- cooler and wiser heads have prevailed on those issues already decided and will prevail again on this struggle over health care. The wrongness of his opinion is made clear by his position on the losing side of it. (The extremist side, mind you). Mandatory private health insurance for all! And always remember, a strong insurance industry is a Strong America! Zealots of his ilk must always lose; lose he will, and lose he must.

|
for principle? At what point does compromise become capitulation? Are there things for which there is no acceptable compromise? I have yet to see the Republicans compromise on anything, nor show any wilingness to. Is there anything the Democrats won't compromise on?
Just getting something done for the sake of getting something done, however much apparent compromise and negotiation is going on, doesn't necessarily mean that what gets done is worth doing. That appears to be the case in the health care debate where both sides clearly cannot or will not envision any kind of health care system that doesn't revolve around a nucleous of profit making. Our "Uniquely American" for-profit health care system must be protected. The insurance industry must be protected. Both sides are in fealty to it, so they'll dance around the very thing that is needed, namely, putting the insurance companies to heel, and under the pretense of "compromise and negotiation" -- the Republicans will do niether, in good faith -- foist some crap on us.

while Markos rests on his early years. Same thing with Move On. org. Site who could have lasted but folks got fed up and moved on.
Best think one could say about both Kos and Move On is that they spawned some good people...and gave a voice to the few when no one else would. Yet...why was it they didn't follow through? That's a question that needs some answering somewhere when history of the first days of Internet Activism swept the net.

52. I voted for Dennis Kucinich in the 08 CA primary |
|
but I wouldn't vote for him again for dogcatcher.
I think he believes things won't get better until after they get a lot worse for the middle class in this country, and he is willing to help the getting worse part happen by shit canning the modest reform represented by the senate bill.
His approach would hurt a lot of Americans in the short term with no guarantee that it would help anybody in the long term.
I don't think he really wants to help. I think he wants the ego satisfaction of saying "see, I told you so".
I'm 100% with Moulitsas on this. If Kucinich wants to be another Ralph Nader, let him. How much attention is anybody paying to Ralph these days?

MM was around for the very BEGINNING of "Netroots". I remember back in 1998/1999, there were a HANDFUL of progressive sites - and MM was one of them.
Kucinich, on the other hand, has taken one too many "principled stands". I'm not saying he's wrong, but there are OTHER WAYS to influence politics. And sometimes it means going with the flow to get things STARTED.
