Another Prius speeds out of control, N.Y. police say

PURCHASE — A woman smashed into a stone wall this morning because of a stuck accelerator on a Toyota Prius, Harrison police said.

The 56-year-old driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, acting Chief Anthony Marraccini said.

The woman was pulling out of the driveway at 3700 Purchase St. facing forward when the accelerator stuck, police said.

The car "shot" across the street smashing into a stone wall, Marraccini said.

The collision sent "some pretty big boulders" fairly far, Marraccini said.

Marraccini said the floor mat has been pretty much ruled out as a cause. The 2005 car appears to have had corrective action taken, Marraccini said. The floor mat was tied to the seat base with plastic ties.

The car has been taken to police headquarters for further analysis.

15. This would be a great time for Toyota to hype the horsepower of their engines
There's nothing like lotsa horsepower when confronted by gremlin acceleration.

3. According to a number of DU'ers today...
people are doing this on purpose because they either want attention or to cash in on the $$.

Just how many more accidents need to happen before these owners are to be taken seriously? And what corrective actions had been taken, too?

5. Just like a lot of DUers to blame the victims.
Automatically assume someone is lying. Life threatening lying.

4. Plastic ties? Really?
The floor mat was tied to the seat base with plastic ties.

I wonder if this was Toyota's fix or a DIY project?

If it was Toyota, that is a pretty lame solution.
If it was DIY Toyota will probably blame that for the acceleration in this case even if it had nothing to do with it!

7. Woman whose car was recalled/fixed had more problems with acceleration . . .!!!
Could it possibly be that Toyota has NO idea what the hell is wrong

with the cars? Yikes!!

And all of these cars are losing resale value . . . indefinitely, it seems!!

51 or more dead in US?

When I'm on the highway now, I'm looking at cars around me!!

10. I saw on a news show
(I think it was 60 Minutes) a man who is in prison for involuntary manslaughter because of an out of control Toyota. He's trying to get a new trial. I wonder if there are others who have been convicted of reckless driving, etc. because of the Toyota acceleration problems.

16. Camry...
...and he smashed into the rear of an Oldsmobile and demolished it. Amazing pictures...the Camry is not that damaged and the Olds is absolutely destroyed. Well, at least Toyotas have a decent body viz protecting those inside. That is about all I can say good about them at this time.

17. The local Nashville stations
are crawling with lawyer commercials asking "if you've been injured because of out of control acceleration, call..."
