I thought saying "no" to your party until they compromise and give you something was the very height of 'serious', 'adult' politics. Apparently that's only the case if you're right of center, or essentially an insurance industry lobbyist. How odd.

I still can't believe that idea got out of the trial balloon phase, let alone make it this far. I would've thought people would've stoned any sell-out politician who even attempted to pass that one off as a solution. I suppose it speaks to the power of the insurance lobbies.

4. No. Melitsos is backing the health care bill as it is, |
|
Dennis isn't. I actually have more sympathy with Dennis on this. If there is a public option, medicare for all, it will come because the people want it, not because the white house fights for it.
I understand both sides of the debate; but a lot of those people who will die if the health bill doesn't pass will not be helped by the bill. It won't cover everyone, and that just means that there will be people who fall through the cracks. A mandate is not a particularly fine idea either, except for the insurance companies.
They are going to continue to bleed America white unless they have stronger sanctions imposed on them than the senate bill manages.

been reading Markos since he started blogging and I've always liked how he can be both his own person and at the same time ally strategically when he thinks it's worthwhile.
what's interesting to me is that both these guys believe in the same type of health care system, but Kos thinks it's worth voting for this in the interim.
but if i knew for sure a candidate's positions would be 100% implemented, DK would be closest to mine.

that they keep flinging at us: they give us war, oligarchy, purges, bankers gambling with our lives and homes (and then we bail them out), and enslavement to insurers. then when we complain it's "exaggerated" and we have to buckle down, grow up, not cut off our nose to spite our face, and vote for 4 more years of Reagan-Bush feces. the worse a candidate, the more howlingly angry they are, because they've poured all their hopes and desires into this empty suit: UCLA is covered with stencils of Obama endorsing a walkout over ever-rising fees. newsflash: he'd rather hire Russian boyars to ride by and whip you than help scummy commoners like you. and the crappier a bill (HCR), the more angry people get about anyone who dares spurn this gift from the gods.

you know the Democratic principles we all used to share here?
It's a hell of a lot more than can be said for the blue-dogs in Congress. Not to mention Obama. That's why we're in the shit hole we are in right now - too much bending over and caving to repukes like Snowe, Grassley, Lieberman, Nelson, Lincoln, and all the rest.
If we don't start standing up for what is right, we are doomed to be under the thumbs of these wishy-washy, namby-pamby "leaders" forever.
Why the fuck did we even have an election? For crying out loud, WE WON. It's time we started acting like it. When they win, and they will, then THEY get to lead. That's how it works.

68. I personally, being a bigot, have no use for people who's name begins with "K." |
|
This includes people who's nicknames begin with K.
I have little or no use for Kucinich myself, but I think that Kos is more than a little grandiose too. He, and Keith Olberman seem to have think they were elected spokespeople for Democrats.
I voted with my feet on that proposition, not that either of them seem prepared to question their own authority as a result of any grounds.
I also have very little use for some of Kos's front pagers, particularly those who represent that they are "fair and balanced" and those who want to represent their tenure as interns and Nobel Prize winning authority.
Some of them are "Glenn Beck's" of the left, replete with bathetic selective attention (or possibly inattention) to very serious issues.
The science, in particular, on that website is often just this side of creationist and I have personally seen stuff that is appalling.
I have come to see some of them as fundementally dangerous people.
Other than those minor points, disregard for science, inflated self aggrandizement, lack of nuanced thinking, etc, I agree with Kos.
