I saw him at the post office, talking to the lady behind the counter.
He said "I'm a survivalist, ya never know what's gonna happen, that's why I have a generator".

Well, the last time our power got turned off due to incompetence at the power company, we were talking to him, asking if he had a generator, and he said, "We've got three generators, but none of 'em work".....

He says he's working on a Ph.D. I wonder what in the hell in. He proceeded to tell my DH who has TWO degrees in math/engineering and physics that "Isaac Newton was WRONG".

I'm sure he thinks Obama is gonna take his guns away from him. He is living in a former nursing home that was vacated. The local cops told me that they didn't pay their electric bill and were using cold water. They said they were gonna fix the place up as a "Christian youth home". Uh-huh.

There are no kids staying there b/c they can't raise money to bring it up to the state inspection standards. And the community has objected. I have no idea what they do for money other than possibly odd jobs.

I read some of their materials back in their '80s heyday -- they were paranoid nutbars but you could still sift some good self-sufficiency ideas out of the cracked pot.
