Could/Should DU have a "jobs link" for those of us who have openings at our place of employment?
For example, two full-time openings with benefits have just opened up at my work. I thought it might be nice to let DUers know. Considering the job market today, it would not only help other DUers but will also continue the DU camaraderie.

What do you think?

I'll be out your way at the end of next week! Los Angeles and San Diego. Looking forward to my trip! :hi:

4. Sure. Cuz we want freeping lurkers to know where we work.
That will end well.

Don't mean to be negative but I see a down side to the idea.

10. You have a point
but I think the risk is small of any repercussions. It might be best not to list any small business a DUer might work for, if it seems that would be a breach of personal security.

11. I share your concern...
Perhaps some safeguards?

For example:
1) Just like the "DU Groups" forum, you have to be a contributing member?
2) Maybe have a minimum number of posts before eligible?

23. I disagree with that requirement. Using myself as an example,
I had to change my user name because of stalking. In the process, I lost my large # of posts and year of joining. Whatever count I have now would not reach your minimum. And to boot, I was told I was a newbie a few weeks ago.

The idea has merit, and would need safeguards but I can't imagine what they should be. There are also plenty of new, valuable members whose posts are low but contribute good information and insight.
Many great members do not have time to post a lot, they are pounding the pavement, looking for jobs.

26. You gonna hire someone who (apparently) spends all day posting to forums?
Heh, j/k. Still, your idea discriminates against those (like myself) who tend towards the taciturn. My post count belies my join date.

19. Don't need to mention you work there just that you know of some job openings.
If everyone could post of openings they know of in their localities someone may benefit..

21. Good idea!
There could be a mix of openings at the DUer's workplace as well as openings elsewhere in the area that the DUer knows about...

6. As long as you don't let membership

in DU drive your final decision, unless that is a philosophical foundation of your business. There are those, for example, who let environmental considerations drive decisions because of fundamental values they choose.

Do you own the business, or would the owners be happy with it being identified as a place associated here? If there was just a job board that people posted known positions to (and their identity was protected) that would remove some liability for current employees.

I can't think of a reason for this to be against policy at DU. There are a couple downsides, but not enough to stop the place from doing something along this line.

9. I wasn't suggesting that we who post the links actually do the hiring.
Just that when an opening occurs and is advertised on the organization's web page, we simply provide that link in a post. That's all.

The rest is up to the applicant, the process, and the search committee...

24. I think it is a great idea. Might even add in a section
which lets people put what they are looking for, and in what area. One could always look through their postings, see what you think, and pm them.

Could be a useful resource for members. We might want to consider pinning the links in individual state forums though, to simplify searching.

K&R!

18. Good idea if...
your place is actually a nice, progressive place to work. If you have two openings, but you work for Cracker Barrel, I don't think DU needs to know.

25. Speaking as a software engineer, I'd say no.
I hold to the view that any application (web or otherwise) should do one thing and do it well. A sister-site could be formed, however. LibJobs.com or something. (And I'd be glad to put it together for a *ahem* reasonable fee.) ;-)
