The office of House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said in a statement, "The House will send up the Iraq supplemental to the White House tomorrow, coincidentally on the fourth anniversary of 'Mission Accomplished,' and the president is expected to veto it on Wednesday."
On May 1, 2003, President Bush arrived on the deck of the aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, by way of fighter plane to announce the end of "major combat operations" in Iraq, adorned in a flight suit. Though the president never spoke the words "mission accomplished" himself, a giant banner proclaiming the phrase loomed in the background as he gave his address.
