Passing the Private Insurance Industry and Big Pharma Protection Act ensures A Republican Congress |
|
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 03:35 PM by Better Believe It
and President will be elected in 2012.
The Republicans will campaign against the proposed health insurance excise tax, the 500 billion in Medicare cuts that will hurt the elderly and will promise to stop the government from forcing people to buy expensive private health insurance during economic hard times.
Those will be three of their major talking points centered around their demagogic populist sounding propaganda pledging to go after the big insurance companies by repealing the health insurance act.

If they want to use the bill against the Democrats, and they do, they want to look like they were united fighting against it.
Not much of a strategist are you?

13. If the Progressive Caucus supports it & repubs and insurance industry oppose it, |
|
it is alright in my book. Not the bill I would write, but with that array of supporters and detractors, I'll support it.

"this is the right thing to do". Screw the Republicans and screw the elections. There are people out there in dire need of health care. To do nothing for them at this moment is not an option.

6. The insurance industry bill won't help them. That has been fully documented on DU |
|
It will prevent the establishment of a universal health care system for a generation and put our lives and health in the hands of the insurance industry and big Pharma.
Everyone knows the purpose of the health insurance industry is to deny healthcare, not provide it.
That's how they make money.

3. Thanks a hell of a whole lot. I can hear that from the repub talking heads on Tweety's show too. |
|
If that were so damned true why are the repubs warning us about that very outcome? Maybe they know something you don't. Maybe after the bill is passed people may start to see through the repub lies.
Suppose you are a person who was turned down for insurance because of a prior condition and after the bill passes you can buy insurance at a more affordable rate than before and you can be covered no matter what your prior conditions were. I guess those things would drive you into the hands of the repubs.

5. I hope you are right. But a jobless recovery combined with the insurance industry bill will hurt |
|
and the Republicans will exploit this to the max.

11. You're assuming we'll still be in a jobless recovery in 2014. |
|
That's when the mandate will take effect.

14. Unemplyment will probably be about 8% not including several million workers who are not counted. |
|
Or, we could be in dip two of a double dip great recession with an "official" unemployment rate of well over 10%.

12. They might be able to BS through till it goes into effect |
|
When most people get nothing but screwed it will start to be a real problem.
Just the folks pissed they not only don't get access to the system but are literally forced by law to buy whatever shit work serves them alone will be rough to smooth out. As time goes on and it becomes clear that almost nothing has been done to address the root causes, a gnashing of teeth even from many even the staunch supporters of today might result in a full on collapse.
In retrospect people's vision will improve, I strongly suspect. Trading away the farm and then some to correct what should be criminal behavior and even then only for the rare person that can afford the rates is not going to look smart or ethical in the rearview.
