What worked for the Soviet military doesn't work for health insurance reform |
|
Here's the standard line from the Obama administration: "Don't let the perfect become the enemy of the good."
Here's a quote attrbuted to a Soviet admiral: "Better is the enemy of good enough."
But here's the deal. A healthcare bill that chips away at women's access to healthcare is not "good enough."
A bill that doesn't allow me to choose my own doctor is not "good enough."
A bill that forces me to buy a corporate product against my will is not "good enough" UNLESS I have the ability to choose a public alternative instead.
A bill that allows insurance companies to override my doctor's prescription is not "good enough."
So if you don't see me cheerleading for the current incarnation of health insurance reform, now you know why. Show me the error of my ways if you're able.
But also know that I'm encouraged by Alan Grayson's bill to institute a public option that anyone can join. That gets us a little bit closer to "good enough."

1. It's worse to give up on the Best before you even start negotiating for the adequate. nt |

I refuse to believe that the price of reform is the loss of principle.
