Bob Barker donates $2.5 million to PETA for new location
Pro- or anti- PETA is beside the point here. Barker indeed walks the walk.

====

LOS ANGELES - Bob Barker has donated $2.5 million to help the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals open a new location in Los Angeles.

The retired game show host and spay and neuter champion will cut the ribbon Wednesday at the Bob Barker Building on Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street.

PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk says Barker could have just given the group a refrigerator but instead he paid for an entire building to be renovated.

The building will be home to the group's media, marketing, youth outreach and campaign departments.

The 86-year-old Barker delivered his spay and neuter message on "The Price Is Right" for a quarter century. Since he retired in June of 2008, he has taken his activism on the road, promoting freedom for whales, an end to the fur trade and other causes.

9. I was going to say the same thing
When was the last time any animal or critter displayed all the pathetic frailties of we humans, such as deceit, envy, corruption, greed, guile, jealousy, deception, wile, lying, manipulation. We humans should be glass caged and closely monitored and examined continuously so that other species remain uncontaminated.

15. He loves animals, but I don't know if he is really a good man all the way around.
He puts his money where is mouth is, and I appreciate that, but he has had some moments with the women that worked for him. Not sure how true some of the stuff is.

34. I was born and raised in Tidewater.
I got no problem with PETA being there. Breaks up the normal mundane of the day to day bullshit rightwingers and Patbots at Regent.

19. I am a Norfolk resident and I am SO glad that PETA is here.
There are so very few true liberals around here.

Most all that work for PETA are liberal on the issues, and I welcome the activism, awareness, and spirit they bring to the area.

22. he also gave about 700K to support our elephant in a wildlife
sanctuary. She left alaska and now she's strawbossing and getting slapped by a herd of elephants that she lives with. He's a truly good man for his giving.

the owners be forced to trap and kill them. After all, they're encroaching on the animals' territory.

12. I support PETAs work to expose organizations that fail to follow laws and regs regarding animal care

But otherwise, their stunts make them look like idiots.

I still shake my head when I think about the Fishkill, NY fiasco.

17. "media, marketing, youth outreach and campaign departments".....?
Why not spay/neuter, free vet care, etc? None of these items relates directly to actually taking care of animals.

24. PETA's SNIP program will continue in NC and VA.
They do roughly 10k per year (spay/neuter surgeries) with their mobile clinics.

As for the other programs not "actually taking care of animals" you may want to look further into what PETA can and has accomplished with those departments, unless you think that "animals" ends with dogs and cats.

They came closest to that actual retail price of these cough drops without going over, and won the building.
