It is the number of Congressional districts in this country. Each of us who lives here lives in one of those districts. Each of us has an opportunity to influence the election of the Congress member in that district.

Every one of those 435 seats is open in November. Primary season is approaching. What will you do in your own district? That is the question to be asked. Not what one Congress member in a district far from yours is doing or saying. It's your Congress member who you have a chance to support or replace.

It is that simple. Look to your local Congressional district. Become active there. Work for a candidate who believes as you do. There is no more important task for any of us during an election year. None.

You may think your Congress member is unassailable. He or she may be a Republican. You may be right. But what about two years from now? What is done this year will affect the next election as well.

What if you went door to door in your own neighborhood and told people why your favored candidate would be good for your neighborhood? That's what I'll be doing over the next few months. What will you be doing? Will you be whining about a Congress member whose district is far from yours? To what end? Who will you influence? What effect will you have, compared to the effect you could have right in your own neighborhood?
