Hazmat Crews at Alamo HEB (grocery store)
Source: KRGV.com

ALAMO, TX - Hazmat crews are at the HEB in Alamo.

The store is located just off the frontage road. A black box is sectioned off in the middle of the parking lot and surrounded with shopping carts. The box appears to be a safe. It has a combination lock on it.

Witnesses say a liquid substance was oozing out of the box. Everyone is being kept about 100 feet away from the box.

I was there this morning at about 10am Central Time when this started. The firetrucks were just pulling in, and they were trying to get people out of the store to move their cars away from the suspious item.

2. The last time we had a bomb scare in this area, the duffel bag that looked like
a homeless person's motherlode turned out to be just that. But the bomb squad sure got to have a good dry run......

A safe with a liquid coming out probably isn't some homeless person's stuff..........beat's me what they've got. Hope it's boring.

7. I was over in that area a year ago. When Glenn Beck was having his Teabaggers at
the Alamo. Coincidence?

8. it's Alamo, TX...not THE ALAMO...
The Alamo is in San Antonio.

Alamo, TX is about 250 miles south of there near McAllen, near the border.

but I wouldn't put it past Glenn Beck

11. Gotcha. But, they left the near minimum wage employees in the store.
Are they keeping them there as canary mine birds or something? Glenn Beck would probably approve of that, too.

10. HEB stands for H.E. Butt - which sounds like 'Itchy Butt' when you hear it the first time

* Just a little known fact to enhance the story for those not from San Antonio.

12. Especially with a Spanish accent
The first time I told my mother what the initials stood for and she repeated them back, I just about fell on the floor. Have you seen the founder's picture? No wonder they don't post it too prominently. Let's just say his name and his face have a striking resemblance to each other.

15. that's hilarious - that is how I found out - saying it to my mom visiting

I announced 'We're going to the H.E. Butt' and she said 'what's the itchy butt?' bwahahahahah
It reminds me of Harry Hines Road- I only assume that the middle initial is a B, but I may be dreaming

13. Update
Police took X-rays of box before opening it. Nothing was found inside.

"We don't know what the liquid was. Apparently they got a negative reading on it," says Espinosa.

Police tell us the security camera outside HEB didn't show who dropped off the safe. They also say the safe's latch was broken, but they don't believe anyone tampered with it.

Investigators are now trying to find the owner.
