Black and white thinking-a common trait of extremists
I've noticed that a lot of extremists-conservative, libertarian, leftist, you name it-think only in terms of black and white.

You are either with us, or against us. You are either a good person or a bad person. There are only two ways of thinking in the world-right and wrong. And on and on.

While there are lines that I would never cross, and there are firm convictions that I hold, for the most part, the world is a complex array of shades of gray.

I really think that a lot of the horrible things that happen in the world are due to people who have totally inflexible, black-and-white worldviews.

2. For many people, it is far easier to see it in black and white.
The world is more nuanced and not in perfect little arrangements. But to admit that the world is gray takes critical thinking.

capitulation, or bi-partisanship, that means "they win". Let's think in colors, red, purple, green, yellow, blue and all the shades that can be made from those colors, like a rainbow. Then we get real agreement, but also a rich tapestry where everything has its place and everyone has a place to fit in.
