Pretty powerful "after shock".

This was one where you feel the ground shaking.

Some others I only noticed because I started feeling queasy, with vertigo.

Some others I didn't notice.

This one I noticed. That kind of shaking isn't something one is unaware of. And the one at 11:39 AM and the one after that. The 11:39 one was almost as bad as the original one that woke me up on Saturday morning, Feb. 27th, about 3:30 AM.

14. What an odd post
You think Tsunami warnings are some conspiracy? For what purpose? For who's benefit?

I bet Indonesia, India, etc wished it had some warning.

15. Tsunami risk depends greatly on the geology and topography at the epicenter.
You are more of an expert on this than the USGS because why?

17. my question is ..why wasn't there a tsunami warning issued..7.2 is a big damn earthquake.

Hell i lived through a 6.9 Northridge earthquake ..I lost my home in that 6.9 earhtquake that all but shut down Los Angeles..

why was no Tsunami warning issued on a 7.2 in Chile?????????

Maybe i didn't make myself clear enough..i was multi tasking at the time..

But my question should have been..why was not Tsunami warning issued after a 7.2 earhtquake?

others smaller have had Tsunami warnings issued..numerous times.

No reports of serious damage after magnitude-6.9 temblor

TOKYO - A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9 rattled Japan's southern islands early Saturday, injuring two and initially prompting fears of a tsunami.

There were no reports of serious damage from

The Meteorological Agency had initially predicted a tsunami up to 6 feet near the Okinawan coast and warned nearby residents to stay away from the coastline. The agency lifted the warning within two hours after observing only a small swelling of the tide.

19. In the Japan cases you cite, local authorities issued warning .
They're independent of Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

Chilean Navy issued tsunami warning in this case.

24. It's not only a question of magnitude.

The way in which the fault slips is also very important.

I'm sure there's a lot of other stuff to consider (like underwater landslide risk....). I'll leave it to the geologists and such....

9. I love you Mother Earth, but seriously.
If you can't ease up on the rock and roll, can you at least change it up so that the countries that have already been hit can breathe a little?

On a more serious note, I hope everyone in Chile is ok. :(

here

which has the latest.

Tsunami warning still in effect for about 1,000 mile stretch along Chilean coast.

It is a preventive measure so far.
