Ad Shunned for Attacking Attorney General Holder, Former Terror Suspect Defenders

The conservative group led by Liz Cheney is having to defend itself against criticism from fellow conservatives who say that an ad attacking Attorney General Eric Holder is unfair.

The ad, launched by Keep America Safe, an advocacy group led by Cheney, criticizes Holder for not disclosing details about Justice Department lawyers who have previously defended alleged terrorists.

The video, which surfaced last week, brands the lawyers as the "Al Qaeda 7" and ridicules the Justice Department as the "Department of Jihad." The narrator questions, "Who are these government officials?...Whose values do they share?"

...

Keep America Safe is not backing down, insisting the questions it raises are responsible and valid.

"The American people have a right to know who in the Department of Justice is setting policy regarding detention of terrorists and related national security issues," Aaron Harison, executive director of Keep America Safe, told ABC News.

"Lawyers in private practice have the right to volunteer 'pro bono' to defend terrorists. However, membership in the legal profession does not immunize a person from questions or criticism of their prior actions," he said.

1. Um, that sounds considerably more moderate than what they were saying before.

"Al Qaida 7," "Department of Jihad," "Whose values do they share?" - these kinds of terms are all coined to scare people and smear the DOJ.

Now, they are merely "questioning" or "criticizing". That's a far cry from "Al Qaida 7!!!!!" :eyes:

2. Fuck the whole Cheney tribe.
One can only hope that someday in some way the Cheneys get a taste of the same perverted justice they dish out so liberally.

3. Liz Cheney has proven to be just evil a person as her father
I don't like to use evil, as it's an extreme word, but father and daughter would be the rare types that fit the demanding requirements.

6. It's a shame that Lizzy and her cronies
are so stupid when it comes to history. I would wager that if you asked any of them, Liz included, if they revere the Constitution and the Founding Fathers you would get at least a semi-reverent affirmation that they do. Whether it's true or not, I beg leave to doubt, but for their "base" they at least claim to honor the Constitution, strict constructionism and the Founding Fathers. That being the case, it is truly a shame that someone doesn't remind Ms. Liz of a similar situation in US jurisprudential history - that John Adams defended the British soldiers involved in the Boston Massacre, not because he liked them or believed in what they believed, but rather because of his strongly held beliefs that every man was entitled to a fair and just trial and to competent legal representation. It was those beliefs he carried into the political life of the fledgling US of A and, I dare swear, the same beliefs any lawyers in the DOJ who represented accused terrorists hold today. The other thing that Liz seems to have forgotten about the US legal system - it's innocent until proven guilty. I'm not terribly surprised. Liz is very good at forgetting things - like the work she was supposed to be doing rather than arranging fundraisers for her dear old dad.
