Poll question: Is Sen Dodd saving his soul, or is this just another gimmick?
Dodd Financial Regulation Bill: Bipartisan Talks Failed, Senator Plans To Introduce His Own Bill

WASHINGTON AP) – Unable to muster bipartisan agreement on key banking provisions, Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said Thursday he will offer his own version of a sweeping overhaul of financial regulations without Republican support.

A month of talks between Dodd and Republican Sen. Bob Corker had found common ground on but details on key provisions, including consumer protections and other sticking points.

"Together we have made significant progress and resolved many of the items, but a few outstanding issues remain," Dodd said in a statement. Dodd said he still aimed to get a consensus bill, but said time was running out.

Dodd's go-it-alone choice comes in the midst of an emerging culture of high partisanship on Capitol Hill, where Democrats and Republicans have been at odds for over a year on health care changes, little progress has been made on climate change and energy legislation, and members of both parties watch warily as an angry voting public continues to show heavy disdain for incumbents.

1. Who knows? I have voted for Dodd 2 times but am so glad he is retiring.

It is beyond time. I used to like him, way back in the 90's when I was younger. But he has been pathetic lately. CT needs two new Senators. Maybe he do one good thing on his way out.

17. I voted for him everytime I could.
But I am happy he decided to step down. Thank you for your service, Sen. Dodd, but it's time for you to go. He's been part of the problem lately.

12. Pshaw! We'll just borrow the money from China - they know we're good for it!
And while we're at it can I pick up some Stinger missiles to sell to this group of crazy kids that just wants to blow us up? I could...um...WE could make some serious profit on those!

5. Why the hell isn't THE WHOLE COMMITTEE doing it like it's supposed to be
done?!?!?!? First he limits it to himself and Corker and NOW just himself. WTF, Senator Dodd, we elected a whole bunch of Senators, USE THEM!

6. I bet HE's torn. I think he's basically a good person, wants to do the right thing,
has been dazzled by the $$$ along the way, has regrets, and is now dealing with cancer, having two young daughters, concerned about their future and he's not a wealthy man. I'm just guessing there's an internal war going on.

7. I think you kind of nailed it.
I don't hate him and never will. He was a good Senator at times. But he had these lapses where he would do the wrong thing. A lot of Dems in CT have simply had enough of it.

8. If this is about putting more control of the financial system under the "federal" reserve
..then it would be about SELLING his soul, not saving it. :evilfrown:

13. The "Fed as Enemy" is nothing but a canard. A distraction.
The Fed, true is not beholden to government, but those investing in the government, which makes them, well, defacto beholden to government

16. Hey that's Capitalism. I'm not the biggest fan, but that's how the game is played
And capitalism always ALWAYS ends in disaster.

But as far as boogeymen go, the Fed is a non issue. I think corporate personhood is a far greater danger to democracy

15. Frack bipartisanship. We gave them a majority why?
Rachel Maddow speaks for me. We gave them a huge majority over the Hyena Party. And they keep splitting committees into 50/50 tar pits.

Maybe Rachel was exactly what he needed

Who says the fourth estate can't do any good!

I mean, if any media figure were to call on someone and make them change, it would be HER would it not?
