French bread spiked with LSD in CIA experiment

A 50-year mystery over the 'cursed bread' of Pont-Saint-Esprit, which left residents suffering hallucinations, has been solved after a writer discovered the US had spiked the bread with LSD as part of an experiment.

In 1951, a quiet, picturesque village in southern France was suddenly and mysteriously struck down with mass insanity and hallucinations. At least five people died, dozens were interned in asylums and hundreds afflicted.

For decades it was assumed that the local bread had been unwittingly poisoned with a psychedelic mould. Now, however, an American investigative journalist has uncovered evidence suggesting the CIA peppered local food with the hallucinogenic drug LSD as part of a mind control experiment at the height of the Cold War.

The mystery of Le Pain Maudit (Cursed Bread) still haunts the inhabitants of Pont-Saint-Esprit, in the Gard, southeast France.

On August 16, 1951, the inhabitants were suddenly racked with frightful hallucinations of terrifying beasts and fire.

One man tried to drown himself, screaming that his belly was being eaten by snakes. An 11-year-old tried to strangle his grandmother. Another man shouted: "I am a plane", before jumping out of a second-floor window, breaking his legs. He then got up and carried on for 50 yards. Another saw his heart escaping through his feet and begged a doctor to put it back. Many were taken to the local asylum in strait jackets.

Considering what has been proven about our government in the past, it does indeed make you wonder what they may be doing right this minute?

I think Jesse Ventura's new book and also a show? is speaking openly about a lot of thinks our government wants us to forget. A lot of examples of bald faced modern media propaganda. Criticizing the war profiteers military industrial complex.

It's becoming common knowledge within the masses of citizens that our government and institutions are all complete frauds run by sociopaths. Hell, Jon Stewart had that guy on that just wrote a book about spending ten years under cover as a Madoff investigation team. At the least, incompetence, at the most crimes against humanity.

In Canada, the issue took much longer to surface, becoming widely known in 1984 on a CBC news show, The Fifth Estate. It was learned that not only had the CIA funded Dr. Cameron's efforts, but perhaps even more shockingly, the Canadian government was fully aware of this, and had later provided another $500,000 in funding to continue the experiments. This revelation largely derailed efforts by the victims to sue the CIA as their U.S. counterparts had, and the Canadian government eventually settled out of court for $100,000 to each of the 127 victims. None of Dr. Cameron's personal records of his involvement with MKULTRA survive, since his family destroyed them after his death from a heart attack while mountain climbing in 1967

17. i read the book about this. i don't buy the article.

it was argot poisoning. people would get sick for several days to a week, then recover, however with manic energy and unable to sleep. then a few days later, they'd trip HARD.

lsd doesn't work that way.

not to deny the cia worked with lsd... but this article is a huge stretch.
