Activists hopeful on Obama immigration plan
Reform activists emerged from a meeting with US President Barack Obama Thursday convinced that he could enact sweeping immigration reform this year, despite a toxic political environment.

But the volatile politics of a mid-term congressional election year and an unemployment rate of 9.7 percent have many observers doubting whether political momentum can be built on such an explosive issue.

Obama met a group of activists in the White House for more than an hour on Thursday, and also consulted two key senators, Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Charles Schumer, to take the temperature on Capitol Hill.

The White House has said it wants to see evidence of bipartisan support for comprehensive immigration reform before it attempts to move a bill through Congress.

1. A couple years ago I sent my Harvest Corps plan to my
governor in Idaho, C.L. "Butch, did you get that nickname from Larry Craig?" Otter. If we stopped all the illegal immigrants from coming in, any able bodied person that was not employed, could be drafted to harvest the crops. Of course, that was also going to apply to rich people that weren't working as well.
I wonder how that one would pole? Especially with unemployed drunk teabagger types? It wouldn't be anywhere near as much fun now that there are so many good people unemployed. I never got a reply, as you might imagine.

5. Yes, I suspected as much
it wasn't hard to figure out within his first few posts. Apparently, however, he's been flying under the radar with now almost 200 posts. Perhaps most DUers just find him amusing and want to keep him around a bit to bat at.

3. It will take 100% of the Presdent's political capital
to push HCR through Congress, and he won't get any of it back, win or lose on that battle.

I guess the reason they're attaching student loan provisions to the reconciliation bill is that it's the last ship heading out of the harbor until after the election.
