Just got a call from the DNC |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 09:57 PM by SHRED
The fundraiser went into the usual speech about RW Repubs out to destroy health care...blah...blah...blah.
I interrupted him and informed him I will be giving to individual campaigns from now on.
He continued stride for stride with his sales pitch thanking me for past contributions.
I interrupted him again and told him (in no uncertain terms) that I didn't appreciate Rahm Emanuel calling, those of us fighting so hard for single-payer, names. I asked him if he knew what I was talking about? He said yes
I said good then DO NOT call me again. Good bye.
My blood was starting to boil so that is why I ended the call.

2. I wish the DNC would call me. |
|
I'd be polite to the person making the call, since they're probably an idealist volunteer, but I would let them know I'm not giving to the DNC because of the DLC and Rahm Emmanuel.

7. Actually, the people doing the calling for the DNC, DSCC & DCCC |
|
are probably not volunteers but someone working for a telemarketing firm. My nephew worked for one very briefly a few years ago and he did political fundraising calls. He told me that they had been instructed to make the person they called say "no" three times before they stopped asking for money - no matter what the reason for not donating was.
That's why I'm nice to them and try not to rant too much, they're just someone trying to get by in lousy economy. If they were volunteers I'd do more of a rant because they might care enough to tell someone if they got a lot of negative responses.
I do ask them to pass along the same message you gave, that I will only donate to individual candidates.

9. The call I got from the DNC the other day was from "VoterTalk2010" |
|
I told them the same as the OP - that if I had money to contribute, I would give to individual candidates, never again to a national organization. Besides, I continued, I have no money since even with insurance the medical procedures my hubby and I have had in the last year cost us too much out of pocket and we are broke.
The guy on the line said he has been getting the first comment a lot and understands why voters feel this way. And he was nice about wishing me well with our health problems - but he did ask me for money several times throughout the conversation.

4. he was saying that the Republicans... |

...were out to destroy health care reform and I could not help but think of how the corporate Dems are doing precisely the same thing.

I'll tell you the only reason I stay in this party is because I still have hope that a few decent Democrats in congress will continue to serve the people, not the corporate interests.
