Nobel Prize-Winning Scientists and Economists Call On Senate to Address Climate Change Now

http://www.buzzflash.net/story.php?id=1083611

Nobel Prize-winning economists and scientists will deliver a letter to the U.S. Senate today, urging lawmakers to require immediate cuts in global warming emissions. The letter was signed by more than 2,000 prominent U.S. economists and climate scientists, including eight Nobel laureates, 32 National Academy of Sciences members, 11 MacArthur "genius award" winners, and three National Medal of Science recipients.

1. Front Page of USA Today yesterday: Has the Climate Change Movement Cooled/Failed?
I can't remember the exact wording. Underneath it incorrectly described the emails as exposing "junk science" and insinuated that the entire issue was manufactured - I didn't spend my 50 cents to pick up the trash. But it was at the newsstand as I was traveling back to Idaho. USA Today, whether it is right wing or not, is the most widely read newspaper in the country.

With stuff like this being pumped into the public consciousness, with oil prices nice and low again - no one cares about energy or climate issues :(

2. It's likely Kerry and Boxer ASKED for this letter. Schumer is tryng to push immigration reform PAST
Climate Change on the senate schedule. He's been working the newsmedia to make it happen, too, by exaggerating Obama's simple suggestion that Schumer craft a bill first. Climate Change bill was submitted months ago, and has been awaiting the end of the healthcare debate. TOO patiently waiting, imo. It doesn't help to have self-aggrandizing senators like Schumer trying to push an issue like immigration ahead of Climate Change. Asif the earth has any more time to wait.

Schumer wants to be majority leader and some think he is pushing immigration debate forward now to increase the chances that Harry Reid loses his seat in November. Immigration reform would become a hot potato in a state like Nevada where the economic problem has hit the hardest.
