Nancy Pelosi Will Not Include Public Option In Final Bill
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/12/pelosi-public-option_n_496559.html

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on Thursday that she would not include a public option in a health care reconciliation package that the House will send to the Senate.

"We're talking about something that is not going to be part of the legislation," Pelosi said, noting "with sadness" that the public insurance option won't be part of legislation. "I'm quite sad that the public option is not in there," she said.

Earlier Thursday, a spokesman to Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the Majority Whip, said Durbin would "aggressively whip" a health care bill that included a public option.

Pelosi, however, put the onus back on the Senate, saying that the chamber didn't have the votes needed for it.

"I'm not having the Senate, which didn't have a public option in its bill, put any of that on our doorstep," she said. "It did not prevail. What we will have in reconciliation will be something that is agreed upon, House and Senate, that they can pass and we can pass... It isn't in there because they don't have the votes."

3. She's a real woman of the people alright
Finish shedding your stage-prop tears Nancy, and then deliver the seven-figure check to corporate insurance, big pharma, and all the other fuckers who are bleeding this country dry.

And may God bless the USA.

4. Good news: she up for election this year.
Bad news: she is from Marin County ( you can tell just by looking, if nothing else)
8th District. No chance in hell she will lose the election.

7. Good grief, the responses to this post are mind-numbing.
Should Pelosi vote for all of the senators instead of them voting? When she is the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

9. The criticism of Pelosi here is absurd...
She had a public option in her House bill. She already passed it. The Senate didn't have the votes for the public option when they passed their version of HCR. How is this not sinking in for people?

How many times does it need to be said, there are NOT the votes for a public option in the Senate.

Everyone already knows this except the dreamers and those completely naive of how politics works.

I repeat, there are NOT enough votes for a public option in the Senate. There never were, there are not now, there will not be 2 weeks from now.

There is a reason the President long ago stopped pushing it. He knows there are not the votes for it. If the PO is included, HCR dies in the Senate. Many of those Senators "signing on for a PO" over the last couple weeks are ONLY doing so because they know the issue is already decided and that the PO is dead. It has been dead for months.

We are basically going to get the Senate bill plus a few fixes, or nothing at all.

Drop the public option nonsense. It's done. There is no use fantasizing about it. It isn't going to happen this time around.

15. Have you been paying attention..

In the senate on the 1st go around there was not 60 votes so there as no PO.. NOW Dick Durbin has said there ARE!! 50 votes in the senate soo a public option could get through via reconilation!!

19. There are only 50 votes if they dont really have to vote...
It's just smoke and mirrors. The powers that be in the Democratic Party long ago decided they don't want the public option.

Many of the Senators saying they are now for a public option, are only doing so to soothe the base. They are only saying that because they believe the public option is already out of the picture. It's just politics.

Speaker Pelosi on the other hand actually delivered a bill with a public option. She actually got the votes and passed it. She knows full well the Senate won't and it is time to actually get something done rather than wishing the Senate wasn't so horrible. Anger at Pelosi is simply misplaced here.

16. Then it is just mandated purchase of products
and as such it should not go forward. This bill is the opposite of all Obama ran on. The opposite of what we all voted for.
It is theft.

17. The story of the PO is one of constant disappointment, betrayal, and failure.
And it has been intentional, from the start.

No public option, no vote for any of them.

That should be our battle cry.
