Gallup what?
Total Retail Sales? How were they measured.

Without a link so we can see the definitions of the data sources, this chart is useless. It could be comparing apples and oranges, for all I know.

Please supply a link to the original information so we can read the basis for the data. Thanks.

7. Gallup is individual, Census is aggregate.
The Gallup poll is asking an individual about his/her spending the day before expressed in dollars.
The Census is all the retail and food sales added up.

The Census site breaks it down nicely..showing big increase in spending at gas stations for instance.

Can't tell how Gallup determines these are average. Is it the average of all consumers in America or the average of their sample?

You would think a drop of the average consumer from $99 a day to $64 would show up as a drop in the total number, but then somehow I can't believe the average consumer is spending at a rate of $36,000
a year not counting utilities and taxes, auto sales and rent or mortgage, health care? especially if the average income is around 55,000 year. So Gallup, what's up with that?
