You know what pisses me off
Edited on Sat Mar-13-10 01:44 AM by AllentownJake
The absolute lack of critical thinking skills in this country. Whether from the left or the right.

Seriously, I can remember being stuck in Indiana, in 2004 looking at people waving an American flag saying we are winning the war in Iraq and saying define win.

In 2010, I can now say that democrats are as dumb and without critical thinking skills as the Republicans. Despite all evidence that the administration has a banker, wealthy elite focus, I have to push, prod, and beat it into people's head that the government is not really working for you.

Whether it is the BLS labor statistics, GDP reports, or the census data on consumer spending, people refuse to do two things.

1) Read the actual report, I mean the whole thing. These reports aren't that damn long. Think about what you read and than defend what you think about it.

2) Read what your ideological opponents have to say, and look for some truth in it. If you think you have a monopoly on truth, I have a suggestion, let me nail you to a cross and I'll see after an agonizing death if you rise from the dead in three days.

Seriously, I'm really getting sick of this football team mentality. There is 1% of this country that owns mostly everything and there is the rest of the 99% of us.

The quicker you understand that, and look from things at that perspective the better you will be.

1. How droll, I wish I could be concerned but Keeping up with the Kardasians
is about to start and I must catch this episode...

When they first burst on the scene, I thought the Kardasians were a new enemy for the Federation in Star Trek...

Yep, it is very frustrating that the people are so easily distracted...

and unless others share your ideology they aren't going to read the reports the same way you do.

Instead of taking the WSJ, Huffington Post, Reuters, AP, or other person's word on them. For a bunch of people that bitch about the media, they sure seem to take the word of it when it is convenient.

5. Useless Politicians
These politicians we have elected are wasting my valuable oxygen. Modern political parties in the US play a version of "Good Cop, Bad Cop", Playing off each other in a sick game were we always lose. Our precious tax dollars go to buy votes and peddle influence without actually making an impact. Billions are wasted on pet projects while teachers (My mother in law was laid off of in California recently), police and firemen are given pink slips. Yet we are told that we need to pay more in taxes. When my weekly hours have been cut in half and my benefits slashed the last thing I want to hear from some millionaire politician is that I must pay more taxes. Spend smarter!
Such things frustrate me to no end. Neither party represents my interests currently. Our ambassador of good will and change has become Bush II. This angers me most of all. We were duped and blatantly lied to. Time to make them pay.

12. I can tell you why people don't use critical thinking
To do so means being willing to change your point of view and that can feel like a mini death. I've been a lifelong Democrat and it hurts like hell to be moving away from that. If I had stayed in my comfy cozy belief system, it would have hurt a lot less. I would be a lot less angry.

17. "this football team mentality"
Edited on Sat Mar-13-10 05:44 AM by depakid
Rah, rah rah -go team!

I once wrote something along these lines:

If Obama came out in support of burkas- there'd be those who'd say it would decrease the number of deaths from skin cancers.

That's from "our" side of the aisle. We already know from the past several decades what sorts of things Republicans would say- irrespective of any (or even all) evidence to the contrary.

This displays a prejudice and bias that would negate critical thinking

You are free to disagree, however after the largest fraud committed in world history...I'm not seeing many people from Goldman Sachs, AIG, or Lehman Brothers doing perp walks a year later.

Why is that?

Here is a helpful thread to help clarify the matter

Note that even if you are correct in that you it's an opinion, you failed to support that opinion so what you wrote is useless.

26. I saw that
Edited on Sat Mar-13-10 08:40 AM by AllentownJake
and you posting that was one of the most ironic things I have ever seen.

There was a nice report issued by a commission on what went down at AIG and now Lehman brothers. The amount of securities laws that were violated is staggering. That coupled with the Cuomo indictment of Bank of America.

I'm still waiting to come to DU to see the picture thread of the perp walk for those crimes.

The President's justice department has not made a single move yet on either of those situations, or the mounting evidence building against Goldman Sachs.

Till I see crimes being punished, I will hold that opinion based on that evidence.

30. and we are back to what I originally posted
you believe your opinions/beliefs are facts. As a result most of your positions tend to be flawed, since proper opinions are based on interpretation of fact (which requires one understand exactly what a fact is).

like earlier when I asked you to look at underlying numbers and tell me what you think and you couldn't do that...that type of trouble finding facts?

It was actually rather a funny exercise between you and me.

I can make a net income statement say whatever I want it to say. Where people catch reality is how I classify things and what that says.

32. What you did was take a bias against the Obama administration
Edited on Sat Mar-13-10 09:08 AM by NJmaverick
and attempted to hide it by covering it with unrelated facts and unsupported opinions. The idea that the Administration must be "bank and financial elite focused" because they dealt with the BANKING CRISIS and didn't ignore it, is simply astonishing.

34. Considering your track record posting to your own posts doesn't make your point.
You don't display any evidence of critical thinking skills. You never have. And when confronted with facts you attack with insults and accuse others of not thinking critically.

I'm sure that someone has told you this before, but as there's no evidence that you pay attention to anything that doesn't already support your point of view I'm sure I'm wasting my time, nonetheless I'll say it anyway. Taking talking points from the party without analyzing it for truth, accuracy and checking to see if there are ways to interpret things in a way as to have the opposite of what is intended happen, is not thinking critically, it's called parroting.

meaningless because you never acknowledge the positive. You have your filter and see everything through it.

And that's not even considering your attempts at sounding like an expert on economics.

So calling out anyone else for lack of critical skills is ironic, to say the least.
