A long time ago, congressmen were respectable
No more. They sell their souls to big business and big contributions to insure they get to continue to enjoy the lavish benefits of serving in DC. It's despicable! Why do we allow this?

What happened to honor? Who redefined the word service? This fall, I won't be voting for any congress-critter who was not on board for a public option. No exceptions! I am sick and tired of reading about the ones who say the votes aren't there. Get the damned votes. MAke some threats and carry them out. We aren't stupid. We know how Washington works.

They can blow smoke up our collective asses as much as they want, but we know who IS working for us and who ISN't! The anger of the right has manifested itself into the destruction of the American middle class. The ignorance is unforgivable. And the cooperation of certain democrats is also unforgivable. A concerted effort to remove these cretons from office has to take place this fall. They must be SHOWN we are serious and if they continue to play these games, they WILL LOSE! This goes for all of the bastards who have sold their soul to the devil (in this case, the devil is big money).

Pelosi plays her word games, tickling our ass with a feather while doing her damndest to keep enough favor to hold her post, regardless of whether what she is doing is beneficial for her constituents.
That's not honor, that is unforgivable narcissism.

I think they really think we believe the bullshit they are spewing. Like they are the teachers and we are ignorant students. The right is so ignorant they vote against their own interests in the name of trying to regain power so their politicains can continue to fuck them, too! Every single republican I talk to is so blinded by their hate and racism that they are willing to acquiesce to name calling when you give them hard facts they cannot refute. Every one of them tells you how Obama's destroying the country, but when pressed, they can't really say how, they just know he's doing it! Socialism!

A lot of dems are ready to just give up, tired of the ups and downs and the smoke. Not me. If we lose this HCR fight, it will empower me to work harder to get those responsible held accountable. It's all I can do as a citzen, but there is power in numbers, and I will do whatever I can to get as many as I can, to help remove worthless congress members.

1. Three words: Rose colored glasses.
Let me expand on that. This is historical revisionism. The history of Congress is rife with scoundrels and dishonorable dealings. Is it worse now than it's ever been? Possibly but possibly not.

Oh, and of course there are honorable men and women serving in Congress. The problem is the same now as it's ever been: There aren't enough of them. Add to that a weak leadership- particularly in the Senate and the results are what we see.

Oh, and I disagree completely about Pelosi who I think gets a bum rap here.

5. I felt that way about Pelosi,too
But now, I do not see her working to get support for a PO, and that is the basis for my claim. She should have been on that message all along, but she toggled back and forth. She still is, so I now have her in the "do not vote for" column. I will not tolerate sell-outs to the insurance companies whether they have a D or an R behind their names. You're either for the people or for the insurance companies. Why hasn't Pelosi shouted this from the rooftops? She hasn't even attempted to do so, and neither has Reid. Any time you give anyone credence for opposing a PO or medicare buy-in, they reinforce that desire to pacify donors. You can buy it. I'm not. And I'll do so via my votes.

6. fine, don't buy it, but why on earth are you buying this bit about how the
Congress was once this noble body? As for Pelosi, anyone who's kept a close eye on all this, can say pretty firmly that she's been the one person in the leadership- and the ONLY one, who's actually fought for the PO.

7. Everyone has an opinion.........
....and I respect your right to yours, but we certainly aren't seeing things thru the same eyes. I expect the Dem Senate majority leader to be tough and push hard for what is right. I understand we all have different opinions as to what is right, but HCR with a PO is right because it is only second to medicare for all, which I believe should be what we should fight for. IMO, the PO is as far as I'm willing to give. Anything short of that is unacceptable.

If I truly thought we could get it added on at some time in the near future, I might go for what they've got now, but I don't. Once HCR is passed, they will declare victory and no one will want to go through the trouble to try to push for it again. That's why we have to get it now. I have written countless letters to congress.....it's the only power I have short of a ballot. My pleas fall on deaf ears. Either they're just not getting enough support for the PO or they have sold out to the insurance moguls. My part is to contribute to the former.

10. The percentage of scoundrels is probably pretty much the same
What's changed is that the loud-mouthed morality police types have increased. Another thing appears to have happened is that for a lot of them is their word is no longer good. "An honest politician is one that stays bought" If you know how he's bought you can usually work out a deal about everything else but not any more.

9. I was going to say "in a galaxy, far, far away." After all, fiction is fiction.
What I have observed recently at DU is a number of "the good ole days" threads. No wonder we are doomed to repeat history; too many re-write it and actually forget what really happened.

11. Their primary goal is not service to the People and legislation.
Rather, their goals are service to their sponsors and fundraising for the next election.
