Appeals court upholds West Sacramento gang injunction


WOODLAND, CA - An preliminary injunction prohibiting the Broderick Boys gang from congregating in a specified area in West Sacramento has been upheld by a California appeals court. Read court ruling

The Third District Court of Appeals sided with the Yolo District Attorney's Office and trial court there was sufficient evidence the "Broderick Boys is a criminal street gang whose activities have created a public nuisance in the designated area."

The area in question, known as the Safety Zone, is bounded by Harbor Boulevard on the west, the Sacramento River on the north and east, and by the Capital City Freeway and State Route 275 to the south. One area within the zone but not included in it is the Lighthouse Marina and Golf Course property.

The Safety Zone also extends 100 yards outside of its designated borders.

In the Safety Zone the Broderick Boys are prohibited from:

Associating with other gang members in public
*
Producing graffiti or possessing items used to produce graffiti
*
Possessing drugs or alcohol
*
Possessing weapons
*
Intimidating witnesses
*
Trespassing on private property.
*
Violating a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew.
*
Breaking any law.

The injunction has been in place since 2005.
