Honest, honey, I'll pull out. You can trust me.
I Guess I'm Just Hopelessly Naive

The President, a majority of Congress and a majority of the Senate all want a public option, or at least they all claim to want a public option. We, the people, want a public option. None of that seems to matter because a handful of Democratic senators, most from small states, have decided they are willing to let the entire bill go under if it is included. While there are many good things in the HCR package, without the public option, how will the insurance companies be kept honest? Because they say so?

Honest, honey, I'll pull out. You can trust me.

5. I am glad the house passed a version with it in it.
As far as there being senators that oppose it, bring it to a vote so it shows where they really stand. That can be done a few ways, amendments or other bills. I actually understand why Pelosi did not want to risk the whole bill on that point by adding it into reconciliation legislation.

I also understand the concept of why it was taken off the table at the begging, but think that was a mistake, but people make mistakes. Mostly a misperception of what is possible.

Basically the people against the public option said that to have it in a bill, the Democrats would have to risk everything else in the bill, so that would set up a win lose. Either bill would not pass, and people that blocked it would be shown as the ones that blocked it, or it would pass with public option.

The thing is, it is possible to pass the bill and have a vote on an amendment, still making them vote on it, then people that whip against it, or don't vote for it will have to defend that in primaries and upcoming elections.

The only way things fail is if they are allowed to hide without having to make there votes known so they can say one thing while actually doing another.

10. It is all about the dollars .... Nicky Santoro in Casino

The United States spends 17.6 % of our GDP on health care in France and the U.K. they
spend about 8 % of their GDP on health care. The difference between our country and
those 2 is an example of the money that is being made by certain factions of the health
care industry and you can buy a lot of love from both republicans and democrats with
that much money.

17. K&R...though I believe it is more than just a handful.
Those who want a Public Option could Steam Roll them if it was just a handful.
There is more Corporate Financed Opposition Behind Closed Doors.

"I am not a crook."

"NAFTA will be good for the Working Class."

"The Iraq War will pay for itself."

"I did not have sex with THAT woman."

"De-regulation will increase competition."

"I did not campaign on a Public Option."

"We'll Fix it Later."
