Liberal Groups in The Veal Pen hard at work to destroy a True Progressive
Edited on Sat Mar-13-10 04:19 PM by wutangfan85
You know, after seeing Eric Massa this week being reduced to a caricature I thought to myself "Damn, this is sad to wattch, but I can't turn away". I thought it was really interesting though that he was one of the few Liberals in the house that were strong advocates of Single Payer that stated that they were gonna vote "no" on the health "reform" bill. I mean don't get me wrong, it's been very hard to watch Eric Massa embarrass himself on TV so much that even Glenn Beck looks perplexed in that interview. But then for the next couple of days I saw people like Ed Schultz begging liberals to support the bill and the Democrats to "pass the damn bill", and Markos Moulitsas threating a primary challenge to Dennis Kucinich (even the deadline for filing primaries has already passed). Then I saw this link on Facebook about MoveOn.org stating that they will hold demonstrations in front of Dennis Kucinich's office in Lakewood, Ohio.
http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2010/03/rep_dennis_kucinich_draws_fire.html

This really reminds me of the story that Jane Hamsher was talking about with "Liberal" groups based in Washington: http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/2009/09/06/van-jones-a-moment-of-truth-for-liberal-institutions-in-the-veal-pen/ I'm guessing these groups that really want a seat at the table in the White House are hard at work now. When I saw this I thought to myself, this could be the "Fingerpoke Of Doom" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fingerpoke_of_doom) for a lot of the Liberal blogosphere. Because most of the readers are young and a lot of people who pride themselves as Progressives are seeing this group basically sell themselves out to have a seat the table in Washington. Really Sad. What do you guys think?

1. I left Moveon after the 2004 stolen election and have zero interest
in anything they have to say since then. I wrote and told them to take my name off their 'huge' email list, as did dozens of other people I know.

What happened right after that election on the part of 'democrats' was unforgivable. I remember we expected a huge fight, led by what, at the time, we thought were all the liberal groups and blogs.

Every day I went to Move-on's site looking for some statement from them. But there was silence. For three months, while 'liberal' blogs began banning anyone for even talking about the election being stolen, Move-on remained silent, not even sending out their 'donation' emails. I guess they didn't dare, as they knew, what we didn't know back then, they had already sold out.

There was one poll on their site asking what was the most important issue to their members at the time. Overwhelmingly the response was 'The Stolen Election'. They never commented on the poll again and there was no way to comment on their site.

They waited a few months, until they felt it was safe to start pretending to be a 'liberal' organization, assuming by then people had 'gotten over' their disgust with the election and were to 'move on'.

If I didn't already have the opinion of them that I have from those dark days, THIS would do it for sure.

Rahm has them in his pocket. When he tells them to 'shut the f up, they do. And when he tells them to to go after good Democrats like Kucinich I guess they follow their orders like good little boys and girls.

I will send this to my email list asking anyone who is till on Move-on's mailing list, a list they use to demonstrate how powerful they are, to remove themselves from it.

What a waste of one of the best resources we the people had, the Internet, by people like Move-on and Marcos Moulitsas. I used to wonder how true it was that these groups were all 'gate-keepers' for the status quo two party system, on both sides. Now I know they are and a waste of time to be bothered with.

There are better organizations growing out of the disgust with these old so-called 'liberal' orgs. They will need support. Moveon, with this move, might just be helping them get more members now.

3. Oh yes, I forgot 'Boycott Moveon'.
And time for another donation to Dennis Kucinich.

K&R to expose them for what they are. I have to say that all these phony Democrats are becoming more bold about revealing their true colors these days.

And for someone who is 'ineffective' the attention given to Kucinich by the rightwing of the Dem Party belies that charge with all the focus they are putting on him.

As for Massa, I saw him lay into Dick Cheney not long ago with the kind of passion I only wish we would see in other Democrats. I've loved him since then. He pulled no punches, called him out for what he is in defense of Obama.

He is a military guy. I heard his own account of what resulted in the ethics hearing, and it is revealing that it was not the guy he was teasing who reported him. But someone wanted him shut up. I just wish he had stayed until the vote passed. He is, after all, innocent until proven guilty, right?

6. That is an excellent article
and no one should ever allow the WH to escape the Rahmifications of this little piece of information:

A few weeks ago, Rahm Emanuel showed up at a Common Purpose meeting and called these liberal groups "fucking stupid" for going after Blue Dogs on health care and ordered them not to do so any more. Since that time, to the best of my knowledge, none of them have.

Hard to believe that this administration ever intended to pass real Health Care Reform considering the COS' attacks on liberals. And as the article says, all those groups like the fact that they get to go to cocktail parties in DC and are not about to disobey Rahm for fear of losing their 'access'. So the 'new media' turned out to be no different than the old after all.

I hope someone organizes a counter protest for Kucinich against Moveon. They should be ashamed of themselves.

9. Wish I lived in his district. I'd be happy to organize one.
But letting Moveon know not to beg for donations anymore is a good idea also. Let them get it from Rahm, since that's who they work for.

11. Yeah, when Van Jones was thrown under the bus
a long time ago I had a bad feeling about how liberals were gonna be treated in this administration. Now it's pretty clear that most of these groups are "contolled opposition". That's why in a way I actually appreciate Jane Hamsher for calling people out on "the left" for selling real progressives out for the sake of being able to mingle in the right circles in Washington. And Ed Schultz's performance was utterly disgusting. That was the icing on the cake for me, because now, at least the mask is off these guys now.
