I am putting my name on the ballot and running for precint chair after this election
Edited on Sun Mar-14-10 03:57 AM by TwixVoy
I am getting damn tired of minorities (ALL minorities - black, GLBT, whatever) being pushed around by these republican scum bags. I am damn tired of being screwed over economically. I am damn tired of the right wing using it's media machine to further dumb down the masses.

Many on DU may not realize this, but during the first 4 years of the bush reign I was HIGHLY involved in the party. I was an elected precint chair. I went to party meetings. I was even an elected delegate to the democratic state convention in 2004.

After the 2004 disaster I became discouraged and dropped out of being involved. In 2008 all I did was show up to vote.

Well folks after talking to some fellow local democrats I have decided to get back in the game starting with this election. The time to run for precint chair for this 2 year term has already passed, but by the 2012 election I intend to hold that position once again. In the meantime I am going to be attending local party meetings again, and I will be actively networking with other local progressive organizations.

I will be damned if these bastards get the congress back again this year. If they do all bets for ANY reform are off until 2012 at the earliest. This country (economically) won't last that long, and I firmly believe the country will enter an all out 2nd great depression if the republicans take congress.

I can only encourage other DUers to do the same. I need not remind you that thanks to the SCOTUS corporations are now free to buy our elections in ways we have never seen before. I have a gut feeling this massive amount of cash now available to the republican party (via their corporate proxy) is going to make this election a potential blood bath. I don't see how the party will be able to compete against a nationwide slate of republican candidates which will now have virtually unlimited cash at their disposal. We can not be complacent or unprepared for this.

I know I voice my displeasure with the lack of democratic reforms often, but I will not sit at home and run the risk these thugs will end up taking power again. I will be on the ground organizing and getting the vote out.

1. Proud of you!
And you're not kidding - if the bad guys get Congress back, we will have NO hope of anything at all. The best we could do is try to contain some of the bloodshed, rape, and pillaging, and knowing our Dems who tend to cave first and ask questions later, there would be little in the way of containment.

3. Good job. I ran for, and won, the chair position in my precinct
this year. Its a four-year position, so I'll be there this year and 2012. I've already built the first precinct website in the state, and will be organizing voter registration and precinct-walking for the 2010 election. I spoke to one of the district DFL people, and will be doing a presentation on how to create precinct websites for other precinct chairs soon.

All politics begins at the precinct level. Here's the precinct website, if you're interested:
