Les électeurs françaises tournent à gauche
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 10:36 AM by marmar
from the Irish Times:

The Irish Times - Monday, March 15, 2010
Socialists take lead in French regional elections

FRENCH VOTERS dealt president Nicolas Sarkozy a sharp rebuke yesterday when the opposition Socialist Party took the lead over the ruling UMP in the first round of regional elections, exit polls suggested.

The Socialists won 30 per cent of votes, pushing the UMP into second place with 26.7 per cent.

The Europe Écologie alliance solidified its position as the third-biggest bloc in French politics by claiming 13.3 per cent, according to exit-poll figures released last night by TNS-Sofres. “The Socialist Party is the first party of France,” former Socialist Party leader François Hollande said. “It’s a satisfactory result.”

French education minister Luc Chatel cited the record abstention rate of about 52 per cent as a major factor in the governing party’s poor showing. “We are at a crossroads,” he said. “It’s now up to us to mobilise our voters.” ........(more)

2. French voters turns to the left
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 10:44 AM by DavidDvorkin
That's my guess.

Well, we'll see. I certainly hope it's a general turn, but it might be more an expression of anger because of economic conditions. In which case, this election may not predict what will happen in the next general election.

11. neo liberalism was never really an option here
Even our right wing here in Keynesian. Our government LOANED money to banks during the crisis and charged interest, they actually made billions of euros for our people off of loaning money to the banks. Our right wing president is also against bonuses for executives unless they are being rewarded for actually making money for a bank or whatever WITHOUT BEING BAILED OUT! This is a turn back to our left, but our right here in France is further to the left than the Democrats are in the USA.
