The Libertarian Ideal

Tiny units of government are the Libertarian ideal. However the end result is hundreds of thousands of tiny units of government, each with their own complete infrastructure for police, fire, sanitation, etc. All aspects of government, as in industry, are subject to economies of scale, so our actual practice of government has become incredibly cost-inefficient.

Somehow this never gets brought up in discussions about "big government" or "public employee unions".

Is this because this represents the "libertarian ideal"?

1. Most of these are not "governments" at all, but "special districts"

Lots of special districts are created so that the political parties can multiply the number of sinecures to be given to their henchmen.

They are a manifestation of "big government", not any "libertarian ideal". Libertarians would most likely be in favor of eliminating most special districts.

No government at all.
