I guess there will be "minimums" of what mandated health care will cover? |
|
If not, I want to establish The GENERATIONX Health Insurance company. It will cost $20.oo per year, but will have a 10 million dollar deductible.
The way I see it, if you don't have two nickles to rub together, having for profit health insurance is like having nothing. If ya can't afford the out of pocket expenses, what good is having "health insurance" if it does not offer affordable medical treatment?

silver is at 70% actuary value.
gold is at 80% actuary value.

6. But I could not set up a plan that basically offers nothing |
|
$20.oo annual membership fee + 10 million dollar deductible.. <- that would not be allowed, right?

7. No, it wouldn't be allowed, but you are free to set up a plan that is unaffordable... |
|
to most people, like the bronze and silver plans, hell my work offers a plan at 70% actuary value, and I can't use that now.

8. thanks for the info my friend |

It is always nice to meet another person with health insurance that lacks access to affordable medical treatment.
God bless and stay healthy!

9. Uhm, they offer it, I don't have it, I can't afford the high fucking premiums... |
|
which is expensive as hell, however, even if I get subsidized to pay for my employers insurance, I still wouldn't be able to use it.

13. You get to keep the $20.00 from all your members/card holders |
|
it's brilliant. You will be rich beyond your wildest dreams!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ You pay out nothing. Virtually no expenses and you keep it all. And... you are helping your customers because what you are charging is less than the mandate fine. So you are providing a valuable service. Let me know when you become a publicly traded company and I will invest. Gotta make a profit from people's health care or lack of health care! It's the DLC way.

10. BTW, currently employer-based plans have actuarial value of 80-85% on average. |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 04:12 PM by inna
As a result of the proposed Health Care Deform, the employer-sponsored coverage will inevitably worsen and decrease to 60-70% from the current 80-85%, and significant number (if not the majority) of employers will drop coverage altogether thanks to the extremely weak/nonexistent employer mandate in the Senate/Obama's bill.

11. As I mentioned above, my employer's plan is at about 70%... |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 03:57 AM by Cleobulus
its a crap plan that they offer, and I mentioned this in many posts before. I haven't signed up for it for two reasons, the first is that the premiums are way too fucking high, and second, even if I paid those premiums, I still couldn't use it, so what's the point?

12. Well, 60-70% is going to be a new standard, unfortunately, and |
|
one would be mandated to buy crappy plans like that no matter how bad they suck.

14. Yep the more people have to pay out of pocket the less |
|
health care they will use = cost savings and less care. This is called bending the cost curve. Don't try to cut costs by reining in the insurance companies. Limit the little guy! Exciting isn't it?
