Christiane Amanpour Offered 'This Week' Hosting Job On ABC
this ought to shut Cokie Roberts up.

I sure hope she takes the job.

Christiane Amanpour has been offered the job hosting ABC News' "This Week," FishbowlDC reports.

Amanpour is said to have told her CNN colleagues about the offer, and is said to be "50-50" on whether she would accept it.

It was reported earlier this month that ABC was considering Amanpour for the Sunday morning job, vacated when George Stephanopoulos joined "Good Morning America."

Amanpour is one of the external candidates ABC considered for the job; internally, Jake Tapper and Terry Moran have been among the names considered for the position.

FishBowlDC reports that Amanpour would make "This Week" more internationally-focused and less about domestic politics; she is also said to want to remain based in NY as opposed to Washington, where "This Week" is currently produced, and to travel for the show as appropriate.

1. Apparently when this story hit, David Gregory started getting
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 03:55 PM by hlthe2b
some rude tweets telling him he's done--now that ABC was likely going to get REAL JOURNALISM behind its Sunday show.

I expect this to be a tough decision for Amanpour... She should get every single concession she would even consider. If she does take the job, I think we need to pour the support her way while simultaneously letting NBC know why we are doing so...

10. she's a sellout like all the other stooges on CNN
same agenda but a little bit slyer about presenting the facts that corp america wants us to have.

piss on you, Christiana. When you had a guest on during the Haiti Earthquake discussion, he mentioned the fact that some of Haiti's poverty was due to Americas subsidizing of cheap food and dumping it in foreign markets like Haiti, thus causing the local farmers unable to compete with the cheap prices and giving up their farms.

fuck you Christiana, for turning away from this information and ignoring the speaker like he was a cockroach or something and going onto something else.

enabling fucker.

15. speaking of David Gregory...
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 04:23 PM by CoffeeCat
I don't know if many remember, but David Gregory used to ask President W the tough questions. He
was a thorn in Bush's side. Given that he's become a corporatist shill, it's hard
to believe, but Gregory truly was tenacious and he was disliked by the Bush WH.

Then we fast forward to, what seemed to be a turning point for Gregory, when he
goofed off and danced with Karl Rove. From that moment on, Gregory was a slave
to his masters.

What I'd like to know...what in the hell happens to these guys? One minute, they've
got spines and they refuse to kow tow to corrupt politicians. The next, they're
folded into the fray like lobotomized lemmings.

Are these "journalists" bribed or blackmailed? I can't imagine that their jobs
would be threatened, because the networks could easily squeeze them out or fire them.

I've always wondered what currency these corrupt criminals and their sell-out partners
are trading in.

19. I do remember him asking tough questions
for a while in the press conferences. I agree, he did a one eighty. It was weird because right around the time that even the average chimp lover was beginning to become disillusioned with him, Gregr=ory decided to become a lapdog. Guess it got him what he wanted.

7. Yup
George turned that program into "presidential politics EVERY week". I'd love to see Christine bring it back to a "national issues" program, including foreign policy and the economy. And Gregory could be sent packing REAL soon.

6. I dunno. I find ABC the most RW of the broadcast news channels if that's
possible. Would they give her journalistic freedom? Or would they put her on a 2:00 AM if they didn't like her content?

8. She wants to shift the focus from domestic politics to foreign affairs which is understandable due
to her experience. I wouldn't imagine that she's very well versed in The Beltway and its ins and outs.

I'm not sure how that would play with This Week's current viewers. If I were her, I'd make sure I didn't sign a contract that ties my longevity to ratings for at least two years.
