I think the Dem's plan for tomorrow is a stroke of genius
they are going to send Chucklenuts the Iraq funding bill on the 4th anniversary of him stuffing socks down his crotch and traipsing all over the USS Lincoln.

Plus, they are going to hold a press conference to draw attention to that moron vetoing the bill.

well done, Dems.

his sense of irony and outrage would have simultanesouly imploded and killed him from the inside.

Nothing like bringing attention to an event that bush would much rather be forgotten. And not because he chose to prance about with a codpiece that would make Henry VIII envious either.

when he landed on the aircraft carrier. He is no better political analyst than George Tenent was CIA Director. According to Tweety the the Dems were in big trouble because the picture of Chimp landing on the Abraham Lincoln was pure gold. Instead Bush loses a % point each time the clip is shown.

33. I can hear the repubs now
"...political stunt...."

How long does chuckle-nuts have to veto or sign a bill? I know there's such a thing as a "pocket-veto" - but in this instance I don't think it would be feasible, not after his numerous threats of a veto and 'urging' Congress to act quickly.

One thought is Chuckle-nuts won't veto it today, but rather will wait another day or two, and if asked why he hasn't signed/veto it the excuse will be that the white house is reviewing the bill. This would avoid the irony of "mission accomplished" day with "Veto accomplished". This would be the smart way to play it.

on the other hand - no one has ever accused the loyal bushies of being smart. Wondering if Snowjob will get dizzy with all the spinning he will have to do?

43. There's a pocket veto, but it won't work here
Four things can happen to a bill once it reaches the president's desk (or Bush's desk, in this case):

He can sign it into law and return it.

He can veto it, mark what things he doesn't like and send it back.
(If he DOES veto it, it's in Congress' court; they have three choices--override the veto if they've got the votes, fix the things the president doesn't like and send it back for signature, or let it die.)

He can let the bill become law without his signature. To do so, he merely holds the bill for ten working days; at that point, if Congress is in session, the bill automatically becomes law. The two reasons to do this is if the bill is just basic admin bullshit they can't append to something else, or if the bill is slightly irritating but not bad enough to veto. This has always been legal, but these days it's not done because it's not really necessary--they just throw all the admin bullshit into a bill someone actually gives a shit about (usually the defense appropriations act is full of nit-noi shit because they know the president will sign that bill).

The pocket veto is like the last one--EXCEPT that it can only happen if the bill goes to the president when Congress will be in session for less than ten working days. When the Congress recesses, any unsigned bills automatically die. Don't ever expect this to happen again--any bill Bush MIGHT not sign will be on his desk eleven days before Congress recesses if they gotta hold Repukes at gunpoint to get it through.

36. He won't veto. (Theorycrafting...)
Edited on Tue May-01-07 07:54 AM by NastyDiaper
Since the bill left the senate, there is less support for the war, more exposure of the whig intel forge, more incompetence and fraud exposed from the deputized contractors.

On the Fox front, "This War I Lost" is increasingly received as "Duh!", not omg "Surrender monkeys!" among their drooling viewership.

The next bill would split funding, giving the military (troops) everything + more w/ no strings.
It will also specify progress audits on reconstruction, and contractor performance.

Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida, the No. 3 Republican, said he is open to the idea of blocking further reconstruction or other aid funding to Iraq _ though not military spending _ if the government does not meet such requirements.

It will be veto proof. The debate for the next bill would not be about 'troops', it would be about 'contractors'.

In *'s world greed trumps ego. I think. * having to explain the veto, knowing the next media cut will be to a flight suit, certainly helps.

gg Dem's. Hang tough with Murtha and Reid!
