On the Sundance Channel Tonight: Trudell
Edited on Mon Apr-30-07 07:19 PM by kerrygoddess
If anyone here is familiar with the name John Trudell there's a documentary on his life on the Sundance Channel tonight at 9:00. I saw the movie 2 years ago when it was making the Indie Film Festival rounds. It's really awesome - great music and quite a story about one of the most outspoken activists of the '60's and '70's. I highly recommend it!

Appeared at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival

Outspoken Native American poet, musician, actor and former political activist John Trudell is profiled in Heather Rae’s award-winning film. Archive news footage recounts Trudell’s role in the fight for Indian rights during the ’60s and ’70s, while recent poetry recitals and musical performances illustrate how a traumatic event forced Trudell to channel his passions into art. Interviews with admirers such as Robert Redford, Kris Kristofferson and Bonnie Raitt help create a memorable portrait of a man of many talents and controversial opinions.

6. Hey that was really good
He is a really wise man. The Big Lie - this is civilization - yep! Also, dehumanizing and demoralizing people in order to get them to participate in an economic system that takes what is theirs, makes them labor to produce, and then sells it back to them. The necessity of dehumanizing people for them to believe they have freedom and democracy when they're really just laborers for capitalists they have no control over - very powerful stuff! Must have been cool to go to the showing in LA!

I think the world needs more John Trudell's. HIs message is so profound and clear to those who listen.

4. Opps!
Thanks - I missed it I was posting on the fly.

Great movie. Awesome performer. I've seen him perform 3 times and know someone who plays in his band. He's quite an amazing individual.

5. Okay, so do WE know eachother?
I know some of his band members too-
did a couple of shows with the old band back in the back in the late 80's
early 90's.
Do I know you?
Were you at the Knitting Factory show in LA
a while back?
Small world, eh?

I dunno - do we know each other?

They were at Cafe Largo this last Oct. I know Billy Watts from an old blues club in the Valley - Residuals.

Did you catch the movie when they did the screening at the Artivist Film Festival 2 years ago?

9. Billy is a sweet heart.
I have great pictures I took of them at the Knitting Factory show-
I missed the Largo! Damn! Didn't know a thing about it.

I talked with JT before and after the show and he said
he was considering booking some more things to promote
his latest, however I haven't seen any listings for them.

I rarely go out, but I would go any distance to see them.
They are, by far, my favorite favorite group to see live.
John is absolutely spell binding in person.

If you hear of any shows, let me know and we'll
go together!

10. Yes he is.
I thought there was a new CD coming out but haven't heard anything about it. Might need to look into that more. I've talked to JT twice about interviewing him for my blog but have not gotten around to setting it up.

I rarely go out too, but am always up for seeing Bad Dog perform. If I hear of anything I will let you know.
