The Video That Will Put Geithner Behind Bars
The NY Fed, and likely Geithner himself, undermined, perhaps even violated, laws designed to protect investors and markets.

March 13, 2010

You gotta see this! If this doesn't convince you that Timothy Geithner knew about the securities shenanigans that were going on at Lehman, than I don't know what will.

Keep in mind, that Geithner ran Lehman through 3 "stress tests" prior to bankruptcy; all of which Lehman failed, and yet, nothing was done. Anton R. Valukas--the examiner who wrote the 2,200 page investigative-report which was released on Thursday-- has provided plenty of information detailing Lehman's “materially misleading” accounting and “actionable balance sheet manipulation.”

In other words, they cooked the books.

1. But will anything actually be done about it? I'm guessing no.

2. This should be a bigger story than it is now
Knowing the sheep mentality of Wall St its likely Lehman wasnt alone using that illegal accounting.

I bet all the major (former) investment houses have their own version.

4. And so where does that put POTUS in all of this? Since he was the one that appointed Geithner! Oh,
Edited on Mon Mar-15-10 10:54 PM by LakeSamish706
and before anyone goes ballistic, I am not for one minute suggesting that President Obama is complicit in knowing any of the details of what Geithner knows.

9. That's why the elected ones have cabinets.
Geithner falls on his sword, Obama does a mea culpa and appoints Stiglitz. A fellow can hope SOMETHING will finally be done right, no?

7. "Cooked the books," pshaw
"They just made an honest mistake trying to follow some "arcane" accounting rule that nobody understands. Sure, it concealed Lehman's weak standing, and it was misleading and manipulative, but golly, everyone does it, and what's the big schmeal? I mean, nobody actually died or anything. Well, sure it was bad and stuff, but now that the crisis is over, do we really want to keep dredging up the past? I mean, it won't really solve anything, will it? Let's move forward."

Next up, a cute young woman goes missing. Was it terrorists or outer space invaders?

That will about cover it.

10. The tipoff that something is a very big scandal in a Democratic administration...
is when the Republicans and Teabaggers fail to instantly jump on it and decry it as the worst thing ever.

I mean real scandals, like this, and not the MonicaJokerSocialistBirthCertificate kind of stuff. Because this (like the CIA involvement in the drug war) implicates a whole system. Suddenly the right-wing noise machine goes silent.

11. So true. The Republicons need even more cover on this one than the Democons do.
I'd like to see the guilty start fighting each other to see who can cop a plea first, but that would require a functioning regulatory enforcement arm of the government.

19. Why not, we allowed LBJ to
murder 36,000 American soldiers and maybe as many as 2 million Vietnames citizens.
