Speaking of Class War, I saw some Fascist reality show on the Food Network
I don't have a TeeVee. Don't miss it much. I'll see the last of LOST eventually.

There's one at the gym in the locker room. Sometimes it's on, sometimes it's off. Sometimes it shows "The News." Usually trying to scare the shit out of people.

So the Food Network is on and teams of chefs are competing, making wedding cakes, coloring, rolling, applying fondant. If you've never worked with it, nobody loves fondant, especially in a timed, televised sporting event.

Fondant requires finesse. Massage. Patience and tenderness. That attentive skill shows on finished cakes, dedicated to the marriages that may end up on another type of reality show, even ones that haven't been invented yet.

So the camera and creepy voiceover are up close while the contestants work, switching back and forth between teams. Teams of two decide to share tasks and cooperate or do separate tasks and cooperate. Teasers at the commercials hint at who is about to blow up at who.
Let's huddle round and wait for The Big Blowout!!!!!

AND THEN AT THE BACK OF THE STAGE BIG DOORS OPEN AND A STREAM OF CHEF TASKMASTERS IN WHITE TUNICS RAPIDLY MARCH OUT IN SINGLE FILE HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THEIR VICTIM/COMPETITORS ON THE STAGE.

They all look alike, dress alike, march alike, have the same This Is Very Serious Don't Dare Laugh At Us or compare us to goose-stepping Nazis determination in their steely eyes behind tiny tiny spectacles and middle aged hip goatees.

Swear to gawd, are we all being programmed to be judged and juried by the likes of Gordon Ramsey, Rachel Ray and Donald Trump, always "ON" always competing, under bright lights surrounded by food and no sustenance, playing for the cameras roles in a reality game show, pantomiming for heartless taskmasters and identically dressed handlers, judging and whipping us to perform what used to be called "Work" and "Real Life"?

:scared: Please Rachel, don't yell at me :scared:

5. Create it. No one actually enjoys eating a so-called 'cake' covered in fondant..

10. I like "Iron Chef:" and "Chopped", but only because...
It fascinates me to see what the chefs can do with the designated ingredients. Especially "Chopped", which gives them really odd sets of things to work with. The rest of those competition shows are really stupid, and unfortunately, there seem to be more and more of them on that network.

12. That sounds good. I like some cooking shows
I'd never seen this type of "scare the shit out of contestants" being the point, beyond the clownish Hell's Kitchen.

8. I know what show you speak off
and I have "watched it" and I can tell you one thing... this was created as a SHOW.

Shows reflect a certain reality.

We ALL wear some kind of a uniform, and as much as people like to avoid talking about it, we live in Gibson's nightmare, or for that matter 1984.

The TV, as in modern TV sets, can be set to LISTEN to you... remember big brother? And they KNOW what you watch all the time.

Don't get me started on your computer... and the fact that using your work computer, or even your Personal Computer at work is beyond stupid. Or the fact that Echelon will "read" this post, like all others regardless of what the law might say...

So that program is a REFLECTION of reality, not making it. That is a cartoon of the world we live in.

11. Shows reflect a certain staged reality. Shows stage a certain reflection of reality. Really.
It is "making reality" by its particular focus, staging, production and programming/reinforcing certain behaviors. Certainly.

If you don't have a TV, they can't "LISTEN to you... remember big brother? And they KNOW what you watch all the time."

16. Has the Iron Chef won an Iron Cross?
Ruskin said "government and cooperation are the source of life whereas anarchy and competition are the source of death" (clumsily paraphrased)

That said, I think I clearly won here http://journals.democraticunderground.com/hfojvt/126

I got 54 votes!! :woohoo: That may be a personal best.
