Bush is gone people!! Learned Helplessness and our collective psychosis
Learned helplessness, as a technical term in animal psychology and related human psychology, means a condition of a human being or an animal in which it has learned to behave helplessly, even when the opportunity is restored for it to help itself.

The opportunity has been restored for us to help ourselves!

2. Heh
Nixon is gone. So is Reagan.
So why do we still have to live with their bullshit?

The bush's are still here. Don't deny that sad fact. Now, if they are in prison and everyone sees that they are convicted criminals, then we can say, finally, they are gone. Tho, for a while, we still will live with their bullshit.

5. What I meant was.....
Bush is no longer president...when we knew we would get nowhere....

Obama is now president.

Maybe we will get the same treatment as before but assuming that is learned helplessness.

We now have an opportunity to try again. The antiwar movement has been silent since Obama took office, it is time for us to make our voices loud enough for Obama to hear...then see what happens. You never know. I have the strange suspicion that if Obama saw all these people outside his front door, he might listen.

14. Ok, HL
That's all very clear now. War is not the answer. Now is not the time to be silent, and thank the stars we now have a voice that will be heard.

Time to exercise our voices, eh? Loud and clear, eh?

Thanks for the reminder.
Somebody around here must be gathering to sing together, time I go find them.

6. +100000
Exactly. There's no recovering from the destruction the Repukes have wrought.

Well, we could tax the hell out of the rich and raise a couple of trillion dollars, but that would be too much to ask of the poor tortured souls.

7. no, and neither is the reason for it
The wars go on...which is why we need to demand and end to this evil futile unending war of terror.

Unless and until we do that, the pentagon will continue to spend over half of our tax dollars digging the hole deeper.

8. I said it throughout the campaign...
When it comes to ideology, Obama represents nothing more to me than an OPPORTUNITY.

CUNY Professor Frances Fox Piven during Democracy Now!'s post-Super Tuesday roundtable discussion:

You know, in 1932, FDR didn’t run with a good program; he ran with the same program the Democrats had run with in 1924 and 1928, and that wasn’t a good program. But nevertheless, his rhetoric encouraged people who were suffering as a result of the Depression — working people, the unemployed — and helped to fuel the movements, which then forced FDR to support initiatives which he otherwise would not have supported, including the right to organize...

11. yes, thank you for understanding!
That is how I see it happening.

Obama gives the people some hope to try again, circumstances empower people to demand change, Obama responds to our demands.

WE are the ones to make Obama's presidency successful, not by accepting what he is or isn't doing, but by fighting for All Americans, demanding real change to lift up our population so our children can look back with pride someday that our generation fought for their rights, for changes that moved the entire nation to it's rightful place, being a leader in raising the standards of peace and happiness.

I will not rest until we return the nation to the course it was on when the coup happened in the 60s.
