Can someone splain this pleaze.
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 02:22 PM by progressoid
In 1993 John Chaffee (R), 19 other Republicans and two Democrats (Bennett, Bond, Boren (D), Cohen, Danforth, Dole, Domenici, Durenberger, Faircloth, Gorton, Grassley, Hatch, Hatfield, Kassebaum, Kerrey (D), Lugar, Simpson, Specter, Stevens, Warner, Brown) offer up an alternative to the Clinton Health care plan.

Obviously, neither plan goes anywhere.

Fast forward to today, we see Republicans fighting against, and Democrats fighting for a plan that is surprisingly similar that GOP plan of 1993.

1. Ironic isn't it?
It also is very similar to George W. Bush's plan on his campaign website (which I think he knew nothing about, but someone in his campaign wrote it for him) with a provision also for medical savings accounts.

5. Ayn Randian caricatures
In fact, they are *helping* this reform pass by having such ludicrous ideas that anything looks incredible in contrast.

4. People don't understand how historically right-wing this reform is
In Bush's America, if you do not want to nuke all Muslims, you are considered a "liberal". So that is pretty much the new Democratic base that elected the current crop. Im not sure how long it will take for that country to recover from the political drift that occurred last decade

7. It is clear to me that the republicans are going to do absolutely everthing
to harm America so they can win in 2012 with Jeb and Liz. The Democratic Party has gone right of center.

11. And they won't stop with the election. We will make Hitler's Germany look like paradise.
The Republicans are going to make our country the worst hell on earth the world has ever known. And the teabaggers will be cheering on every atrocity, stupid f*cks that they are.

8. Actually it was John Chafee not his son Lincoln Chafee
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 02:32 PM by CreekDog
but the point is well-taken.

John Chafee R-RI was a terrific senator in many respects.
