Lincoln parents camp out overnight for kindergarten

LINCOLN, CA- Parents camped overnight in order to register their child in one of the 105 kindergarten spots at Lincoln Crossing Elementary School.

As of 5 a.m. Tuesday, more than 70 parents had spent all night on the school's sidewalk with lawn chairs and sleeping bags.

Tierra Lowry was the first parent in line: she had been waiting since 2:45 p.m. Monday. Lowry said that siblings of students who currently attend Lincoln Crossing Elementary School have first priority. The school principal said about 50 of those who registered had brothers and/or sisters at the school.

Lawrence Anair at the end of line was frustrated, he admitted. Anair had to hold his son back last year because of a similar situation at a different elementary school.

Many parents said it was worth the wait because of the location and Lincoln Crossing Elementary's reputation for being a high performing school.

1. Geez. I just sent my kids to whatever school happened to be where we lived.
I can't believe the particular kindergarten makes that big a difference, anyway.

3. if those same parents would spend just a fraction of that energy making whatever school their kid
normally would enroll in a good working school.
