Podcast by Rob Kall www.opednews.com/podcasts}

Tuesday, Markos Moulitsas, founder/owner of Dailykos.com, on the Keith Olbermann show with Lawrence McDonnell sitting in for Keith, discussed Congressman Kuncinich's announcement that he was planning to vote against the health reform bill as it currently stands. Moulitsas suggested that Kucinich might be primaried. Earlier, on DailyKos, he called Kucinich a "little prick." and said, "He's someone who deserves a real primary."

I spoke to congressman Kucinich for about half an hour, discussing why he's voting against the bill, what it would take to change his mind, and the history that goes into the current situation.

Here's a small part of what he said:
We need to keep the discussion going about alternatives, because every discussion about alternatives puts the pressure in the direction of trying to come up with a better bill. And even at this late date, it would be a huge mistake to just look at the bill and call it a day. No, no no. We have to fight for the best bill we can get all the way down the line and if despite our best efforts, it still can not meet the test of providing care for people instead of profits for insurance companies, then we have to reserve the right to oppose it.

2. Health Insurance Exectuves and GOP thank you Mr. Kucinich.
They look forward to a long and profitible relationship with a man like you who prefers to see 45,000 people die every year rather than find a way to help them.

6. Oh, please. If the other Dems cared that much about the 45,000 uninsured, they would do something
that would cap prices, and end the practice of dropping customers for pre-existing conditions before the bill does anything about it, 4 years from now.

7. Your statement is not entirely accurate.
Immediate Insurance Reform Benefits
Access to Affordable Coverage for the Uninsured with Pre-existing Conditions

•The President's proposal will provide $5 billion in immediate federal support for a new program to provide affordable coverage to uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions. This provision is effective 90 days after enactment, and coverage under this program will continue until new Exchanges are operational in 2014.

There is a 90 day delay only for people who have a pre-existing condition. Also, for the poor whose income us up to 133% of the poverty line, they have Medicaid, which can not deny to cover pre-existing conditions. Children who are on their parents health plans (up to age 27) can not be shut out for pre-existing conditions.

Ending pre-existing condition exemptions will phase in over time, but these people will have coverage if they are refused, begining 90 days from signature of the bill.

10. After all the promises from the House progressives that

each would NEVER vote for anything without a public option,

Dennis stands alone.

It's very sad.

13. "Sole Public Option and State's Rights Health Reform Advocate" What a crock
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 07:06 PM by ProSense
he voted against the public option and their is a state's rights provision in the bill.

A lot of people kept fighting for the public option long after Kucinich gave up on both the public option and his own single payer vote.
