3. George Tenet has ALWAYS been a sniveling weasel |
|
He was like that during the Clinton Administration. I always got the impression he wasn't particularly well-liked back then (and was absolutely shocked when former President Clinton nominated him to be DCI).
Tenet is a mixed bag. He says he was being "a good American". Well, O.K., but he would've been an even better American if he'd rejected the Medal of Freedom.
But that isn't George Tenet. He's always looked out for himself, and done what's best for George Tenet. The good, loyal milquetoast, that man is.

6. Clinton didn't want Tenet. He wanted Lake. |
|
Some rethug put a hold on the Lake nomination - probably Jesse Helms.
The Rethugs were in the majority - either Senator Dole or Senator Lott picked Tenet as permanent director. Probably with the help of Senator Sam Nunn - dem turncoat and general asshole. He was a political choice - just not our political choice. At least that is how I remember it.

9. Correct - and it's a shame Mr. Lake DIDN'T get the nomination, because he would've made a hell |
|
of a DCI. He had the experience, gravitas and stature that Tenet lacked.
It was a real shock to me when former President Clinton announced that he was submitting George Tenet's nomination to Congress. I remember thinking at the time that he must be trying to get George out of of the NSC, LOL. He just didn't seem to be particularly well-liked by the White House staff. Just too much into self-preservation, although he was effusively loyal to the nth degree.

12. George is playing both ends against the middle |
|

On one hand, he's praising Bush, Powell and Rice (I'm assuming he's trying to minimize the inevitable backlash that is sure to come). Yet, in the next sentence, he's laying blame on them. To his credit, he is effusive in commending CIA employees (as well he should). If Tenet really wanted to honor them, though, he should've never accepted the Medal of Freedom, and resigned from the agency in protest of this Administration's policies - but he didn't. That's the George Tenet I remember: The one who always looked out for Numero Uno, and did what was best for his career.
Somebody needs to wake Tenet up and tell him he can't have it both ways. Either everybody from Bush down was wrong, or they weren't.

by it. It it was so phony and sycophantic that he appeared totally void of genuineness. He prefaced every sentence with "Larry" ...made me ill.

The Rethugs are calling him a liar. Ex CIA are calling him a weasle. Most Dems are calling him a traitor. Does he give a damn? I doubt it. He has already got his $4 Million blood money and will scramble for more. Does his book change anything? Yeah, his bank account.
