It sure as hell won't be anyone in the Senate or the White House, both of which have been utterly spineless. Nancy Pelosi and her Democrats in the House of Representatives are to be thanked and no one else. And no Democrat needs to be bad mouthing Dennis Kucinich either - at least he's standing up like a Democrat ought to. If we had a bunch more like him this would be one hell of a lot better party.

Now, when it happens, you watch and see how many people and from which institutions take credit for it. I'll bet the god dam Supreme Court finds a way to say it was all their idea.

1. I think very few will want to take credit for it. I'm just going to grab
both of my ankles and take it.

6. I think many will be running from it ---
fast and furious come election time. They will try some lame excuse as to why they may have voted for it, much like the Dem pro-IWR contingent did. :puke:

13. I don't think so - they've written the thing (all the versions)
so that only the good sounding bits (pre-existing conditions, childrens' care, etc) kick in right away. The not-so-wonderful bulk of the legislation won't hit for a few years.

They'll have plenty of time to glad-hand, pontificate about their own wonderfulness, and collect campaign donations before most Americans realize just how royally they've been screwed.

It only hurts now if you've been paying attention.

15. Well, it's killing me right now --
'cause I know what is coming down the road.

What a colossal fuck-up -- such an opportunity we had -- once in a generation.

21. I agree.
It is very sad. But typical of the way we do things in the US . . .

2. Republicans will invoke it along with socialism as they have Medicare and Medicaid...
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 05:01 PM by Ozymanithrax
They will not take credit for it, not matter how good or bad it turns out.

4. Does anyone really care what the party of NO has to say?
Any decisions based on what the party of NO thinks is not a well thought out decision.

10. November Republicans: "Well, we tried to kill the health insurance bill". Raise your hand if it's
improved nyour healthcare? Raise your hand if your health insurance premiums have gone down. Raise your hand if your healthcare costs have gone down. See, the democrats can't be trusted with important issues."

12. That's exactly what they'll say.
And while it leaves out the part where republicans obstructed every damned thing they could, it will otherwise be essentially the truth.

20. Plenty of families like ours will see their children and sisters and others go from uninsured and
outside, dumped on the curb of the system, to at least having a chance to go to the damn doctor with some dignity.

8. In the beginning Dems in Congress followed President Obamas lead
They wanted a bi-partisan bill...I knew it would never happen but they kept their hope alive. Had Obama and the Dems seen what was quite clear to many of us, we would have probably had a much better bill to start with. Pointing fingers and crying over spilled milk will get us more of the same. Obama still has a lot of work to do. Instead of pointing out all the failures we really need to rallying around our President and Dems in congress. The ones who vote against this bill will become a foot-note in history. But that is their choice. I choose to begin anew. We have a lot more work to accomplish. I won't quit and I sure as hell will never give up.

14. If it's not some modified single-payer system guaranteeing basic universal health care
for all citizens, no matter what model -http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sickaroundtheworld/countries/models.html

...then I will be fine taking no credit for it.
