I am now 34
and nobody believes I should be able to fire anyone... much less 150+ people at the Justice Department on behalf of the White House.

But maybe that's just because I never attended Oral Roberts University.

I really need to get my act together.

1. Hey happy birthday!
... or whatever you're celebrating! Is it first day of the rest of your life? The Monday Night Pity Party?

Only you can decide. Maybe you can get your start by helping to fire POTUS. That would be quite an accomplishment.

Toodles
C

4. I turn 50 next week, and when
I slaved for a large law firm, running their suburban orfice, my worst task was picking which of three to can.

I was 40 at the time. and that was too young for that task.

I guess one of the advantages of being Regent University skollar is that your faith allows you to ignore reality, humanity, and honesty.

6. when I was your age
a year ago...I wondered when people would ever stop saying "when I was your age" as a preface to telling me why they are certain I will grow out of my nearly 20 year long liberal phase.

This is a great age, though, and hey, I guess you don't age overnight after all. that was a relief.

7. You don't look 34!
My brother and I started a furniture factory in '84, tried to expand to quickly and went bust in '87. I was 32 years old. the day we had to pull the plug, I had to "lay off" 30 guys, damn near every single man a solid citizen, hard-working, loyal and good-natured. Most had kids at home, in school, and dependent, had car payments and rent and the usual bills.

It was the most exhausting day of my life - 30 good guys went down because we had made some very bad decisions and could not pay our bills. Some fellows got angry, one guy had tears in his eyes, and I hated myself for losing the best crew I had ever put together.

8. Better to try than not.
Nothing is permanent. It is better to try to start a business and fail, and in the process create some jobs for some years, than to never try at all and produce nothing. You're that much more experienced for your next attempt - you'll get it right next time:)
