4. The Oak Openings region of NW Ohio
has 180 rare plant and animal species. It is comprised mostly by Maumee State Forest, Oak Openings Metro park and several other parks and preserves. It is on the Nature Conservancy List of 200 Greatest Places on Earth.

It may not be a towering conifer forest, but it is unique in this country and the world.
